should i be concerned if a clients asks for a discount before meeting
me or learning anything about our pricing at all? kind of off-putting,
but not sure if this is common?

No it's not strange the bride is probably making her decision based on who is giving her the best discount
thank you caren!
you could walk a little softly areound this one, be upfrount with your fees and any discounts up front. Be prepaired for the inevitable bargaining request at the end of your presentation.
I agree with Caren. The client can be focusing on price as her deciding factor. I wouldn't commit to a discount until I got a feel for exactly what the prospective client was looking for regarding your service. You may then feel comfortable giving a discount. I've learned that although many people seek discounts, if you offer a unique service or stand out within your area of expertise, many clients are willing to pay your prices. :-)
We usually go around it by saying we like to work with our clients to come up with the best package to fit their budget regardless of what that is.
