With the economy taking a nose dive the trend has been for a lot of brides to scale back on spending and mainly coordinate and plan their weddings themselves. Wedding Planners do charge a fee for their services but some brides don't see the benefits. Wedding Planners are a tremendous help in working out a budget, day of wedding coordination and helping brides realize their wedding day dreams. Any thoughts on this?

I agree. Planners are invaluable! As a makeup artist (and second camera) I work closely with a bride weeks before the event for her beauty trial-run and again during the last few hours leading up to the ceremony. Here is where I see the immense difference with the bride who has professional help and the bride who has opted to "save" and tend to the details herself or she relies on a family member (who by nature of their personal relationship is dealing with many "hot" buttons-not to mention they are distracted from doing the job because they want so much to delight in the day too!) now this family member is in charge of tending to the MANY details that need last minute adjustments. The bride without a pro planner has her phone ringing during our hair and makeup session. The calls come from various family members and vendors, asking where to set-up, which way to display items from flowers to seating assignments. The bride is usually cordial and then it happens she gets to the limit and checks-out, she internalizes and gets a far-away look that says "I'm overwhelmed" I see this every time! and it often shows in her photos. I also edit our photographs and see this firsthand. The bride who understands the real value of working with a professional planner will make educated choices because she has an experienced guide and she'll be introduced to vendors that have a stellar reputation. A wedding is live - no chance of a re-shoot. In my opinion the time in makeup, on the wedding day is a perfect opportunity for a bride to relax and let go. Becoming a bride with clear head and a light heart will center her in the moment. It doesn't just happen. I've witnessed the difference many times over. A planner is worth it!!!!!
Wedding planners are a tremendous help when planning a wedding!! I am a Certified Professional Wedding Palnner as well as an instructor at the local college teaching both the weddding and event planner certification courses as professional wedding/event planners we invest alot of time and energy into our businesses so that we can provide the best possible services for our clients we know how to effictively problem solve, plan ,coordinate and excute a wedding we have taken time to build relationships with wedding/event industry professional so that we are educated on the services that they provide and know the who, what and where to find the best services and deals for our clients so to any bride wondering if they should hire a Professional wedding planner ask yourself these questions :

1. Do I have 40 hours a week or more to invest in planning a wedding?
2. Have I built relationships with wedding industry professionals that will offer a discounted prices?
3. 1 hour before the wedding the cake falls over do I know a bakery that can come in and fix the problem or can my wedding planner handle this task?
4. Can my bestfriend, cousin or aunt provide a professional staff, handle all of the details and enjoy my wedding as a guest/wedding planner all at the same all while remaining professional?
5. During times of chaos and confusion within the family(ies) can my bestfriend, cousin,or aunt remain calm and be an effective mediator without picking sides and remaining neutral?
6. Hiring a professional Wedding Planner helps saves me money?

If you have answered no to any of these questions then you may want consider hiring a Professional Wedding Planner.
Go ahead and give us a call we love to plan weddings we don't bite.
With the economy the way it is, utilizing a planner can help her keep her budget in check. While I don't believe in asking vendors to "discount" I will go to them, give them the budget the couple has designated for their speciality and ask what they can do for xxx amount of money. They can either work with me or say no. Generally most people are happy to work something out. It may be doing away with some services that the couple doesn't want or need etc.

As others have mentioned, we also make sure the bride doesn't make mistakes or misses something important. We take the worry and stress off them and their families and allow them to enjoy the day. If they really can't afford a planner, they can afford a good guide such as WEDDING PLANNING GUIDE, A Bride's Workbook (c) which takes them step by step through the planning, then ask a good friend to act as their planner. They should ask a friend to be their day of coordinator only as a last result!
A wedding planner is absolutely a useful tool as long as the wedding planner is skilled in his/her craft. By hiring a wedding planner it is essential that you show the bride how hiring him/her can save money with their wedding knowledge.
A bride/groom should save well over your fee and you should be abe to document that to the couple.
Good afternoon,

I have been trying to get in touch with wedding planners by emailing directly to Caterers and Cruiselines.......no one has gotten in touch with me. How can I obtain a wedding planner that specializes in Beach theme weddings. The reason for my request is that I make a couture wedding favor and I would love to show it to a wedding planner so that she might show the product to a potential bride considering a beach theme wedding. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Carmen

This is what i have been telling all my new prospects and they have signed on. At the end they are truly happy and stress free. It is more reliable when using a Wedding Planner, we can get discounts and usally lots of venues prefer us to be on board.

Hi, I am certain that wedding planners are indispensable, however, I would love to meet but I don't know where to find them so that I can show them my line of couture wedding favors. Do you know of one I might be able to contact? let me know if you do.....I thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Carmen
Hi Carmen, Bridal tweet is a great place to promote your wok and find wedding planners. Why dont you try to look for wedding planners in your area from the internet?
I agree with Peggy. As a mother of two brides, a planner is worth the investment. There are too many decisions and details that need attention and can distract from relaxing and enjoying the beauty and joy of the events surrounding the ceremony. I do think, however, that planners need to be realistic in what real families can and can not afford and be extremely good listeners. Our daughter's coordinator did an amazing job except with the bouquets, and I am afraid that because she worked in the same business with the florist, she listened to the wrong person. Just remember who pays the tab.
I agree with the "Green Hanger", planners (and all wedding vendors) should be listening to the client.

I prefer a planner with nuts and bolts savvy to one with color and style savvy. Only a few have both.

When it comes down to it, the person with the organizational skills and knowledge of the industry can put it all together and make for a smooth wedding day. If he or she is not the best on design, they can always get advice from the appropriate vendor and present those options to the bride and then help her to make the final decision.

As an experienced Wedding Host/DJ (as well as an event planner myself), I have never had a planner ask me for my opinion on anything but I have always made the effort to ask the planner her opinion. I mostly work directly with the B&G on music, scripts, slide shows, lighting, up lighting, etc. I then clear everything with the planner and other vendors in advance and again as the wedding day unfolds.
Wedding planners can actually help brides and grooms save time and money in the long run. A good wedding planner will sit with the couple to find out their needs and their budget. Through long standing associations with recognized vendors, they will be able to negotiate the best prices for the bride and groom. Also, the bride and groom can be assured that their special day will go off smoothly without drama.
