I've never received a personalized favor before and to be honest I probably wouldn't use/keep something with someone else's names or wedding date on it. But I have kept and used the favors that I've found useful like wine bottle stoppers or anything edible.

We had a photo station for our favors and guests got to take home a 5x7 framed picture of themselves. We got a lot of compliments about our favors and I know that a lot of our guests have them on display in their houses.

I definitely don't think favors are a waste if they're good. Personally I would stay away from anything with your names or date on them and try to give something that would appeal to the majority of your guests.

That was a great way to preserve your special event for your guests. I bet they had so much fun and glad for the opportunity have their photos taken all dressed up. Particular for those that don't usually get dressed up very often. For me it would have been spectacular since I can hardly every get my husband to get suited up. LOL
As far as the personalized favors. This is only for those that are especially close to you that would appreciate such a gift. Usable items for gifts are the best way not to have so many left over.
I'm not really a huge fan of personalized favors - I wouldn't want to use coasters in my house with someone else's names & wedding dates! I think if a favor is chosen wisely then they can really add to an event...

Here is a link to my blog with the favor tag http://kreativees.blogspot.com/search/label/Favor I don't post anything that I wouldn't want to get myself! I skimmed over it really quick and it looks like I've picked a few candles - I guess they are practical and can coordinate with a theme!

Donations are always really nice too, that is what I did at my wedding!

I agree with the other responses that I probably would not want to keep a favor that is personalized with the wedding couple's name/wedding date, etc....unless it was something that I REALLY could use. Favors are definitely not a "waste" of money because this is your way of thanking your guests for attending your wedding and showing love and support for such a huge milestone in your life. With that being said, I would recommend choosing a favor with a significant meaning behind it, or something that truly represents you and your spouse. You could also give away something edible (think candy buffet, or other treats that can also be personalized). Put a little imagination and creativity into it and I'm sure you will be able to come up with something awesome!

Well, it all depends on how the personalization is...if it can be removed...why not have something personalized? Like these for example these coasters can be used 3 different ways, framing a photo, used as a placecard holder, inserted with a personalized tag of your name and event date, or simply displaying our beautiful For You insert. But if you are going to personalize a favour make sure it is something that is pratical.

As a wedding planner I have seen many couples who do not personalize their favors. As an individual; in my family and among my friends I have never attended a wedding as a guest where the favors were not personalized. In the case of a food item where the personalization is simply written on a card it gets thrown out after the food is consumed. When the favor is something more substantial that is personalized with more care then just tying on a card it's always saved. It's a lovely reminder of the day that is appreciated. If the people you know don't do that, then that is your answer.
As a purveyor of wedding favors, spend money on favors your guests will use and treasure. It wont matter if they are personalized or not. Your guests and you will remember. personally, I have tossed all those favors with names and dates.
Hi Kelly,

I do not know if you had a chance to view my couture wedding favor. I make this favor as a keepsake, which means that it can be used as a Christmas ornament. year after year after year. When you place this favor on the Christmas tree all the lights that are on the tree make these Swarovski crystals shimmer so beautifully. If you are considering a Beach front wedding reception this favor shimmers like a jewel when any lighting hits it....................................I have it on my tree at Christmas time. This is one wedding favor you will NOT have to toss out!

Best wishes,
Carmen
I have to say...over the years, the only wedding favors that I still have are Christmas tree ornaments! It is nice to look at the tree once a year and remember the nice weddings I went to. Nothing tacky of course...they get tossed!
It TOTALLY depends on the favor....something yummy or useful then yes, unless personalization detracts from that usefullness. As a wedding guestI do love the idea of a momento, but only take those that meet the above criteria.

Mini-jars of local honey was one I particularly liked......Life IS Sweet!
Hi Kelly, I like the idea of either edible wedding favors (homemade jam, r brownie pops etc) or eco friendly options like giving small plants or packets of seeds etc. Beaucoup has a lot to choose from for such things..personalized seed packets, plantable seed cards, ect-here's the link: http://www.beau-coup.com/garden-favors.htm

Also, here's a blog I wrote on edible wedding favors:
