check out your states labour laws and practices, you don't want to start off on the wrong foot. Check out the self help section of the library/intenet on hiring.

Basically you will need an employment contract/agreement that sets out what the job responsibilities are , what the pay is and how often the person gets paid, hours of work . This is for both sides it sets out the working relationship and what is expected.

The other thing is you need to be sure that you can wiork with this person and remember that your business specifically the wedding business you are only as good as your worst review. Your new associate needs to understand that and what that means.
Great advice Glen! I'd also like to add that you should consider if your assistant will be a legal employee (you'll have to take out taxes) or paid as a consultant. You may want to consult your attorney or accountant on this one as well :-)

Kudos for needing an assistant, may your business continue to flourish!
Thank you Glen.I will do that.
no problem , hiring people is always a challange, the concept of how you want your business to run is a "ideal". Transfering that ideal to employees will require a lot of effort but with the right employee it can result in wonderful results for both you and your business, .

The concept of the occasional day off is a real nice thing as well.....................
Besides the law of hiring you probably want to make sure your assistant is the right one for your business. In our case, before actual hiring, if the person passed the interview, we invite him for a 3 days trial on our busy days. It allows us to see how he interacts with cliens and other stuff. Is he taking initiative or just waiting for someone to tell him what to do. We found it very usefull, as it turns out that what you hear on the interview is not always the truth.
