What's in your emergency kit? any unique items that you found you have added because of a certain situation?

My friend Natalie Bradley of BrideAttraction.com is hosting a F*R*E*E call for vendors like you and me on the "5 Biggest Mistakes Wedding Vendors Make that Could be Killing Your Bridal Biz (and how you can avoid them)".
I'm definitely going to be on the call and thought I'd spread the word. Natalie is trying to reach out and help as many wedding vendors as possible in 2010 so that we can all thrive instead of just trying to survive.

I've already learned so much from her Bride Attraction System ... here's the link to sign up for the call on March 3rd - http://tinyurl.com/yk26m9h

See you there!

Heidi- www.efavormart.com has cheap table covers. I just purcahsed some for a show I'll be in next month. In my booth I'm setting up a mock reception table and showing a candy buffet. Brides like to see crative ideas and how you can help make their wedidng stylish. Setting up a mock reception table for each bridal show can get expensive. But I've learned a few tricks. Buy things you can reuse:
- a cheap set of 4 place settings and silverware (ie Ross, TJMaxx, Walmart).
- Purchase mostly clear glass items. They can easily suit any color theme if you use colored rocks/marbles, ribbon, or whatever flowers fit.
- purchase a few general color linens. Buying them will save you money of having to rent them each time. And you can easly "upscale" them with overlays or table runners.
- I like to use the DIY invitation kits from Michael's because there is usually enough supplies to make place cards, escort cards, an invitation, and reply card.
Tip: When you are getting a brides info, write a little note to yourself about that bride or something she mentioned. So that when you send an e-mail or make a call, your conversation/e-mail can be more personal and relevant to her.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Heidi,

I hope the show went well for you. Every show is a learning experience!

Some lessons learned over the years:

Don't be nervous. Remember, you are the professional, the one with all the tips and information. The brides will be looking to you for wonderful ideas and information.

Remember to smile and be yourself. Most people can spot someone who is insincere. If you don't know the answer to the question asked, tell the bride you would like to discuss the idea in detail and suggest a follow up contact time. Let the bride know you want to get her up to the minute information.

Of course have plenty of cards on your table. Do not over stuff the table making it look like a big jumble of information. Make it easy to look at and inviting. If you want to put candy in a bowl, make sure the candy is wrapped and not loose. And not anything messy...something bit size like mints, or other hard candy.

Be sure you have a registration sheet, even if the venue will have one they are distributing to all the vendors. This way you can make notes next to the bride's name if needed for your follow up.

Have samples of your work. In my case, I try to have pictures of great honeymoon locations and destination weddings. If you have something in the way of a sample, have some on your table. Invite the brides to take one.

It can be a long day, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes, have a bottle of water and maybe even a protein bar. Please, don't chew gum, use a breathe mint if you think you need one.

Good luck on all of your shows.

If anyone is in the Philadelphia area, please check out the information for the Main Line Bridal Show on March 14th.
