They want the best deals. They are asking more educated questions and not afraid to ask for a better deal. They are doing their home work before touring facilities.

Yes, I agree..it is imperative to make a person feel good about using your services. They can spend their money anywhere..it is truly a privilege to have consumers choose you over the competitors. Without our clients, our businesses mean nothing. If you give great service and quality products they will be clients for life. I apply those same feelings when I choose to use the services of others. I don't mind paying extra because I know I am being treated with appreciation.

@Lisa and @Chitra: I totally agree. The easiest clients to book have been the couples I contacted within hours of hearing from them. In all respects, I want to treat clients like I prefer to be treated myself!

I agree. I myself get very frustrated when I need to make important decisions and cannot get a timely response. No matter the reason, a vendor should always someone who can get back to their customers within 24-48 hours. Especially in todays competitive market, you must have outstanding customer service!

..just a little tip, have found that brides have said that hearing back from vendors within about a day, in response to their queries, gives them a lot of confidence in that person, and makes them more inclined to go for their services, than a vendor who might take a week or so to respond to their email...just thought I'd share that, thanks :) Chitra

Can you tell that Marketing and Public Relations are the other aspects of my company? LOL

@ Michelle-I have actually seen photographers offer engagement photos as part of the overall wedding package, or maybe comp the engagement photos provided they book the wedding photos with that same photographer.

With me, the one thing I am offering to both the bride and groom are complimentary fitness and nutrition assessments because I know how we women are. We have to look good for that dress no matter what and it doesn't matter if you're a size 5 or a size 22, you want to look good in that dress and maybe looking good doesn't equate to going from a 22 to a 12, but maybe a working on certain areas that as a bride, she knows will help her look better in that dress.

@ Enamour-planners are a great point of contact because of the many connections they have. City brides are very busy with their career, so typically the first person they would turn to is the planner because it takes so much pressure off of them when planning the wedding. Planners have established relationships with a lot of vendors, so when a bride comes in and you can immediately tell they don't have a lot of time to waste, you know exactly where to go and exactly who to contact. With this being said, not everyone can afford a planner. For a "budget bride," a planner is an after thought because they cannot afford one, so they won't get one, but a photographer is definitely a must (like today when I was talking to a friend of mine about having a guest book at her wedding, I told her the wedding will still function without it; it's not weighted the same as say a caterer). LOL. So attending a bridal show is a good route to go to as well because you are able to reach those brides who may not be able to afford a planner. But with the bridal shows, it's definitely something which needs to be included in your marketing plan and budget because some of them can get rather costly; however, if you were able to split your booth with maybe a videographer, that would be a good route to go.

Okay, so since I'm seeing a lot of couples planning their weddings so far in advance, I'm going to start marketing engagement sessions. Most of the couples I met are not yet in the market for a wedding photographer. By offering an engagement session deal, I hope to build relationships with the couples that will have the potential to continue into their wedding.

Great point! We knew that one great benefit of attending a bridal show would be networking with other industry pros, but hadn't thought specifically about wedding planners and the cross-promotion that can bring.

@ Enamour Photography: building reciprocal relationships is a great way to help both vendors and brides. I'm an event planner and if within my network I have a great photographer, well, guess who I am going to when my bride is ready to choose their photographer? Ultimately, it's going to be the decision of the couple to make that choice, but if they choose who I think works the best and they are all on the same page regarding vision, it's a win-win-win situation for everyone. I have saved time by having a great contact in my network and going straight to them, my contact wins because they now have a sale which they may not have been able to acquire, and the couple gets a great photographer. As the photographer, it's also a great opportunity to propose to them any boudoir specials you may have because #1 this is still a fairly new concept which is really taking off and #2 getting women to come out of their shells and embrace their inner sexy side. With this being said, any couples you get which may not have a planner, this would also be a great opportunity to refer them to a planner and maybe discuss some benefits of having a planner vs planning the wedding on their own. This reciprocal relationship can generate a good amount of income for both parties involved.
