My Couples Inspire My Rituals

When I meet with a Couple, I ask dozens of questions. What are their hobbies and interests? Do they like to cook? Garden? Do they connect with their cultural roots? Is there a place they consider sacred? I use their answers to write their love story, a key element in their ceremony. Sometimes, their answers inspire me to create a new wedding ritual. It was not until the ninth century that the church developed a special rite of marriage separate from the Eucharistic Liturgy. Normally, after entering a civil marriage the Christian couple partook of the Eucharist and this "communion" was understood as a seal… Continue

Vow Renewals: Re-dedicating Original Wedding Rings

It's been a blessedly busy summer of vow renewal ceremonies: milestone anniversaries and couples who are re-dedicating themselves to their relationship after difficult times.  What I find especially touching is that couples who renew their vows do so out of an enduring love based on the experience of their shared joys and hardships; a love that honors what has been while looking forward to what yet may be.

In addition to re-affirming their promises, I always suggest to my clients who… Continue

Ceremony Music - Live Musicians or a DJ?

Even though I work as a DJ, I would never criticize anyone's decision to hire live musicians to perform at their ceremony. Live music sounds wonderful and adds an elegant touch to a ceremony. Besides, many of my best friends are live musicians!

However, if you are having your ceremony at the same site as your reception, there are some advantages to having your DJ provide the ceremony music.

(1) You'll save money. Your DJ may charge a bit extra for the additional time,… Continue

one bride's tradition is another bride's inspiration

taken from wedbykez.com

I met with a lovely couple this week who are busy planning a January wedding. Amongst the discussions the bride-to-be mentioned a cultural tradition of the groom delivering gifts to the bride on the wedding morning.

The cogs in my… Continue

Tent Weddings

Weddings held outside under a tent can be very romantic and fun. Just remember that your overall wedding will be 20-25% higher because of the costs involved in holding an outside event. You will need to rent tables, chairs, tents, linens, china, tableware, and others in addition to the regular fare that one has for a wedding. But the results? They can be beautiful!
