PERSONAL VALUES DRIVE COMMITMENT
We all need reminders of why we do what we do. This is one of those reminders:
*Positive Organizational Psychologists, Kouzes and Posner, have coined a phrase called "job crafting," which is where we seek to tie our contribution to our larger sense of purpose. When someone understands how their contribution is tied to their own purpose or values, they seek to expand the boundaries of that role. It allows more meaning to be present in their work. They are now working with purpose! When I apply this principle to my piano performance career, my gigs become more play and sharing of myself, than work. I also find that I want to give my client more than is expected, because I am driven by my personal values.
According to Kouzes and Posner, "Personal values drive commitment. Personal values are the route to loyalty and commitment , not organizational values." Taking some time to really look at our purpose, that value that makes us come alive, will increase our commitment to our clients and our desire to deliver an excellent product or service.
