The Top of Brides’ Facebook News Feed - How to Get There!

{Sponsored Post}

Wedding Professionals:

For those of you who have been reading my blog over the last few months, you’ve heard me say that you should be posting 1-2 times a day on your Facebook business page.  But what I haven’t mentioned is that many of your Facebook posts (or updates) are not being seen by more than half of your fans. Why is that? Well, according to Susan Kuchinskas who wrote 7 Ways to Optimize Your Facebook Feed, “Facebook users have two options: They can see Top News or Recent News—with the default being Top News. With Top News, Facebook is trying to highlight the posts that will be most interesting to users. To do this, it applies an algorithm that is based on how recent an update is, how relevant it seems and how many people have liked or commented on it. The higher the ranking, the more likely it is that an update will show up in Top News. The News Feed is important because most Facebook users don't return to your fan page once they've liked it.”

Here are six tips that Kuchinskas has shared that will help your Facebook posts rise to the top of your fans’ Top News Feed. I’ve taken her tips and put a wedding industry lens on them:

  1. Try to post at least once and no more than twice a day. Freshness definitely seems to be one key to increasing your News Feed ranking, but you have to balance that with not boring your fans.
  2. Post when you think brides will be listening. I think lunchtime or early afternoon is a good time to post. Basically, play around with this and see when you are getting the best response. I also recommend using Socialoomph to schedule your posts ahead of time – when it is most convenient for you.
  3. Post directly on Facebook. This contradicts my last point. If you really want to maximize your ranking, then you should not use Socialoomph or other scheduling tools. For some reason, Facebook doesn't seem to like them. So, you’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of using a scheduling tool and make a decision on this for yourself. I personally use Socialoomph because it frees up the valuable time in my day – and that helps me to focus on my business.
  4. Keep your Facebook posts short. BuddyMedia, a company that specializes in social media, reported that posts with 80 characters or less are more than four times as likely to get a like or comment.
  5. Keep the conversation going. The more activity a particular item has, the higher its ranking. You can double the impact simply by responding to other people's comments. This will also keep your fans engaged in your conversation and with your brand.
  6. Use photos and video. Facebook has assigned a higher ranking value to photos than to other content, according to BuddyMedia. Photos are also a great way to catch a bride’s attention. And while videos can play directly in the news feed, you should limit the length to keep people’s attention, and provide brief text explaining what the clip is about.

We get so much more likes and comments with our photos and videos than just text! Brides are scanning for stuff that they like and interest them so unless it's an annoucement then we prefer photos!
