You might be finding wedding dress shopping a little overwhelming with the numerous dress choices! A handy place to start is to dress to suit your body shape. Doing this will mean that you can accentuate your positives and hide any parts of your body that you are not so happy with.

Firstly, we will look at a selection of the many different wedding ...

Ball gown:

A ball gown wedding dress has a slim cut bodice with a full bell shaped skirt. A timeless dress style which suits most body shapes, except very short as the skirt can be overwhelming on a short figure. A ball gown dress is a great shape for pear shaped bodies as it hides the lower body well.

A Line:

A classic wedding dress, the A-line has a fitted bodice and a loose flowing flare of the skirt, so it resembles a capital A shape. This dress style is well suited to every bride.

Empire Line:

An empire line wedding dress falls directly from the bust line. A great choice of wedding dress for pear shapes brides who would prefer to accentuate their smaller upper frame.

Fishtail or Mermaid:

A fishtail or mermaid style wedding dress has an elongated bodice which hugs your body to below the hips with a glamorous flaired out skirt. This style is well suited to curvy and hourglass body shapes.

Trumpet:

The skirt of a trumpet style wedding dress has a subtle flared skirt from knee to hem in a trumpet shape. The bodice is close fitting and skims the body through the hips. This shape is similar to the mermaid dress style, but more understated. Well suited to the curvy bride again, but is a little easier to move in than the mermaid.

Sheath:

A sheath wedding dress a narrow shaped dress which flows straight down from top to bottom. This dress styles suits petite lean body shapes. This shape can give an illusion of added length on a shorter bride.

Tea Length:

A tea length wedding dress is a dress that falls to calf length. A great choice of dress style if your legs and ankles are one of your best features. This style wedding dress is often suited to vintage style weddings, garden weddings or if you don't want a full length formal wedding dress.

So which body shape are you?

Apple Shape:

Apple shaped brides should opt for a wedding dress which cinches in at the smallest point of the waistline. An empire style wedding dress is the perfect choice. Draw attention upwards by choosing a flattering neckline such as a deep V neckline, scoop or sweetheart neckline.

Pear Shape:

An A-line wedding dress or ball gown is the perfect choice for pear shaped brides to hide fuller hips. Choose a dress with added detail on the top to balance your figure.

Hourglass:

If you have curves, be sure to show them off. The ideal dress for you is a Mermaid style wedding dress to enhance your sexy silhouette.

Straight Lined or Rectangle:

To give yourself the illusion of more curves and shape choose a wedding dress which has more details and volume on both the chest and hip area.

Inverted Triangle Shape:

To balance wide shoulders, choose a dress with more details on the skirt and hip area to draw eyes to that area, such as a ballgown or mermaid/trumpet dress.. V neck and U shaped necklines are also flattering for this body style.

Full Figured:

For the full figured bride, a consider a coreseted bodice to redefine your shape. A-line are always flattering as are ballgown shaped dresses. An empire style dress is also flattering.

Petite Figure:

If you have a petite figure stay away from overwhelming ballgowns and stick with a more slender sheath to elongate your shape. To draw the eyes up an empire waist is a great choice and also creates an illusion of long legs. A structured trumpet style dress is also worth considering.

Tall Figure:

Create width with details on your wedding dress such as ruching and gathering. Ball gown dresses and mermaid are a good choice.

Small Chested:

For smaller chested brides a great choice is a wedding dress with more detail or rouching on the bust area to give an illusion of curves. An A line shaped dress is a great choice.

Busty:

Avoid added details on the bodice, but instead opt for details on the lower part of your dress. Ensure you are wearing a supportive bra that is suited to your wedding dress. Many flattering necklines to choose from include V shaped, U shaped, sweetheart or scoop (avoid a high neck).

Most important, feel comfortable in your wedding dress and choose something that is you!
