Honeymoon Destination: Rincon, Puerto Rico

Most brides think of Vieques or San Juan when they consider a honeymoon in Puerto Rico but few (usually surfers), know the charm of Rincon, a beach town located on the West Coast of the island.  Rincon is far from the metropolitan pace of San Juan and like Vieques is remote and feels like worlds away from modernity.  Unlike Vieques which requires one to book a chartered flight from San Juan or attempt to board a ferry where locals get first priority on boarding (it is not unheard of for tourists to wait hours or have to return the next day), Rincon can be reached easily by car or major airlines.
Atmosphere: isolated, lush + green, escape from civilization, great food, beautiful beaches, picture perfect sunsets off of Puerto Rico’s west coast, slowed down, island vibes
Ideal Couple: Nature lovers, yogis, surfers, foodies, escapists, love to feel off the grid while enjoying modern amenities, laid back, not too fancy
Accomodations
Luxury:  Horned Dorset Primavera ($470-2,200/night avg.)
SLXLM
This Morrocan inspired hotel features  just sixteen suites. Some features of the two-floor suites at Horned Dorset Primavera include walk in showers, king size beds and personal plunge pools to enjoy with your spouse.
The highlight amenities of the hotel include fresh water pools, restaurants (may be closed during low season so be sure to check ), a yoga pavilion and access to their secluded beach.
If you are interested in planning a destination wedding in Rincon, Puerto Rico Horned Dorset does offer the rental of Casa Escondida, which features 4 ocean front suites.
Bang for Your Buck: Casa Islena Inn ($145-200/night avg.)
This small inn is set right on the beach. Prior guests rave about the romantic feel, beautiful scenery and breathtaking sunsets that Rincon is oh, so famous for. There is a restaurant/bar on site in case you feel like hiding away and lounging around. Make sure to check for special packages which sometimes include deals for the yoga studio located across the street!
Restaurants
A Romantic Dinner: La Copa LLena, also popular for brunch, is an oceanfront restaurant that will not disappoint with it's modern, locally sourced dishes. Rincon is a laid back, surfers town and most restaurants follow suit but La Copa LLena provides an alternative "casual elegant" dining experience. With an extensive cocktail menu and dishes like coconut steamed mussels with house chorizo, this is one restaurant that should be on every honeymooners list while in Rincon! There is also a small plates menu if you want to stop by for drinks and snacking.
Most small plates range from around $3-15. Large plates range from $20-40.

Puerto Rican Cusine: Red Flamboyan is a family owned eastery that offers up authentic Puerto Rican cuisine in an open air setting. Come at night and prepare for the sound of coqui frogs in the background. They close early (9 or 10 most nights) but this is the place to experience the best of Island cooking in Rincon! Suggested dishes to try: Surtido Jibaro which comes with an assortment of Puerto Rican fried snacks and the classic mofongo which consists of green plantains mashed with garlic and your choice of filling (we'd choose Lobster) Most dishes range from around $14-25.
Looking for Something Different: Pool Bar Sushi serves up some great sushi with some tropical twists, like the coco loco roll made with coconut shrimp and tropical fruits. The surfers go here- and that is a good sign! Most rolls range from around $5-16. Make sure to try the tempura bananas served with ice cream for desert!

Breakfast: The English Rose, but we warn you this place is POPULAR and closes early so be sure to call ahead since times vary with the season. Come prepared to wait a bit. The food here is amazing and everyone knows it. Whether you choose a classic English breakfast or Lobster Benedict you will not be disappointed...and order the Cafe Pilon! Most dishes range from around $8-12.
Top 4 things to see + do
3. Enjoy surf art at Playa Oeste Gallery and shop for local crafts!
4. Lay around on Sandy Beach and Relax! If you want to venture out of Rincon, some beaches worth mentioning are Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla and Playa Sucia in Cabo Rojo.

Getting There
Rincon is about a two hour drive from San Juan. If you are interested in sightseeting and want to visit the rainforest, Old San Juan, the Bacardi Factory and other attractions in the San Juan area, You can reach Rincon by renting a car or hiring a transportation service. There are no direct flights between San Juan and the airports close to Rincon, so you will have to make a stop in Orlando or Miami if you choose to fly.
Flying to Rincon from the mainland has become easier with both JetBlue and United Airlines servicing the Puerto Rican city of Aguadilla (BQN). Flights out of NYC can range from $250-500, depending on the time of year. The ride from the airport to Rincon is only about 40 minutes.
