Increase Your Google Rankings with Wedding PR


Wedding Professionals:

Did you know that a press release can help increase your search engine rankings? It’s true. If you submit an SEO (search engine optimized) press release to the major search engines (Google, Yahoo and Bing), then it will more likely rise to the top of search results. And once someone clicks on the link to that press release, they will likely read the release and then head to your website.

In last week's blog, I stated that creating an effective press release requires an understanding of public relations writing. To add to that, an effective press release also requires the ability to enhance or optimize it for search engines. Here are four helpful tips for optimizing your press releases for search engines:

  1. Add a select few strategic keywords or phrases throughout the press release. These strategic keywords should be keywords that you believe your audience typically types into search engines. In addition, be very specific with your keyword phrases in order to break through the clutter. For example, most wedding professionals will include the highly-competitive keyword ‘wedding’ in their press releases, so it will be almost impossible to win over those page-one search engine results. Instead, use strategic keyword phrases that are more targeted like ‘eco-friendly summer weddings’ in order to rise to the top of the rankings.
  2. Include photos and other graphics within the press release.Not only will this be more appealing to your audience but it will also grow your traffic if you include photo captions with strategic keywords.
  3. Embed audio and/or video features. Search engines like Google rank audio and video content higher because it is considered to be more interesting and relevant to audiences.
  4. Include a trackable link back to your website. Adding this link will help your website’s search engine ranking. Making the link trackable will help you measure the impact of your efforts.
  5. Submit your press release to search engines. To submit a press release to Google News, you will need to submit your site for consideration as a Google News provider. But there are some sites (PR Web and PR Newswire) as well as free press release submission sites that get into Google News, and if you use them then you can get your press release to Google
    News for free.

When wedding press releases are well-written, provide quality content and are optimized, they can be extremely powerful for your wedding business. Remember that writing informational copy verses promotion copy within the press release will attract both journalists and consumers. And you’ll also want to include a clear call-to-action statement, which should tell your audience what to do next – visit a website, call a telephone number, send an email, visit a bridal show booth, etc.

I found an email press@google.com on their press website (http://www.google.com/press/), is it as simple as emailing the press release to that address or is there some dedicated spot to upload a press release? Little Borrowed Dress - Thanks for asking that question. To submit a press release to Google News, you will need to submit your site for consideration as a Google News provider.

But there are some sites (PR Web and PR Newswire) as well as free press release submission sites that get into Google News, and if you use them then you can get your press release to Google News for free.

Thank you for the tips! Make sure to issue a new press release each time you add a service, have a newsworthy event (like being in business 5 years or serving your 100th client) or when you are recognized with an award or other accomplishment.

I just added two new pages/services to my website and shared the new services on Facebook, social media sites, and my blog, San Diego Wedding News, but failed to publish a press release. As a former media consultant who has written thousands of press releases and done that many media interviews, my best advice is to never think of your news as propaganda for your company. The moment you start to put you first, you've bored and lost the audience. You want to be sharing the kind of information that is either really timely, such as a new trend that is going to turn this season's bridal business on its head, or a warm and fuzzy story with a human appeal that will tug at the heartstrings of your lifestyle audience, such as "local cancer survivor owes wedding to special service providers who rallied to create dream wedding"
