The Secret to Getting on Page 1 of Google

Wedding Professionals:

By now, most of you have heard of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is the fine-tuning that we must do to our websites in order to get the search engines (mostly Google) to notice and rank them. We try all sorts of tricks and quickly learn that – SEO is hard?! It really is. I’ve been studying online marketing and SEO for over ten years and I still think it is challenging. Plus, the rules are always changing.

BUT there’s a more recent trick that is definitely worth noting. According to a recent study by Forrester Research, this trick will give you a 53 times better chance of getting on Google's first page. So what’s the secret?

The secret is...video. By placing a video on your website, you are telling Google that your content is more relevant, current and rich. Therefore, Google will rank your site higher than websites that do not have video. Sound easy? According to Steve Strauss, one of the world’s leading small business experts, there are a few other things that you need to know to really make this work.  Here are three steps that Strauss outlines for us:

1. Create a video. DON’T waste your time creating a video just because you want to see yourself online. Instead, DO make sure the video is interesting and helps your audience. Your video can be a ‘how-to’ explanation, product demonstration, interview with a wedding trendsetter, overview of why your wedding business is unique, etc. If you are looking to create a professional looking video, I recommend that you check out TurnHere. TurnHere is the leader in high-quality, custom video production for businesses. Even better, TurnHere is incredibly affordable (custom video packages range from only $199 to $599). Still not convinced? Check out the video that TurnHere created for one of our very own BridalTweet members, Hello Lucky. I personally just love how this video came out...

Bonus for BridalTweet Members! If you choose to use TurnHere to create a custom video for your wedding business, then send me a BridalTweet message and I will feature your video on BridalTweet’s homepage for one week!

2. Post the video prominently throughout your website.

3. Optimize the video for search engines. This means keywords and phrases must be used in the file name, in the captions, etc. Next, after you post it to your site, you must then submit the video itself using XML tools to Google and the other search engines. There are some great online services like Fliqz, that will easily and affordably submit the video for you.

Finally, here is what Sabrina Moyle of Hello Lucky said about her experience with TurnHere, "They were super professional and the process of creating our video was painless. It only took a couple of hours to film, and their photographer did an excellent job helping us capture the essence of our business. Their turnaround time was quick too.  Within a couple weeks of filming, we had a finished video that we could share and use in our marketing. Definitely recommended if you're looking to add video to your website!"
