I am no experienced wedding planner or married but I can tell you from some experience with helping my sister out for her wedding. My sister wanted to minimize the carbon footprint of her wedding day yet have a big fat Indian wedding with all the glitz and the glamour. Few of the things that she did were used LED based lights instead of the regular lighting this meant less power consumption, lesser generators and lesser fuel burnt. The catering of the food she had disposable quarter plates for snacks etc that were made out of fallen trees barks. So lesser plastic used there and these plates were biodegradable also.

One of my sister wedding is a garden wedding. so its kinda an eco friendly wedding because weding because we have used wild flowers and plants to decorate the reception. We also DIY the wedding favours which is cute and unique. You can have an eco-friendly wedding if most of the decors are DIY decors and the use or recyclable materials. Just an idea. :)

Recycle! If its open bar I am sure there will be plenty of beer bottles laying around.

When deciding on plates, napkins, and silverware although silver disposable silverware, plates, and napkins may be cheaper and easier it it not environmentally friendly.

When buying products for your wedding make sure they are made from recycled resources, and use as little plastic in the packaging.
