Mailing Lists and Leads - What would you do?

Has anyone had any experience with buying mailing lists or leads? Did you get a good ROI? Any thoughts on the pros & cons?

Those are great ideas and it doesn't add any additional cost to the vendor so that's definitely a bonus.
