Tucked way up in the Northwest corner of Washington, lies the picturesque seaside town of Bellingham. Many Vancouver, BC and Seattle couples, looking to wed, are drawn to this location. Bellingham has all of the components necessary to host an amazing event. Students from the areas three colleges make up a large portion of the residence, so the feeling around town reflects a very fresh, almost urban-hipster atmosphere. The calm Puget Sound shores and rugged topography appeals to artists, outdoor adventurists and those looking for a beach wedding with a breathtaking backdrop. Please don’t just take my word for it, start doing your own research to get a little taste of what it would be like to say “I do” in this seaside town. Here is a little inspiration to get you started.

Where to Wed

Bellingham is definitely known for it’s outdoor ceremony locations, but there is also no shortage of picturesque churches in the area. The historic Lairmont Mannor provides an ideal setting for weddings. This Italian Renaissance style mansion has a rich history and the architecture is very elegant (Which is all fine and dandy but what this really means is that your pictures will be gorgeous!). When driving through the Manors gates the first thing you will notice is the spacious grounds sounded by manicured gardens and large native trees.

Where to Stay

The Chrysalis Inn & Spa, a botique property in the heart of Fairhaven, is close to the vibrant local attractions such as Boulevard Park, Village Books and Chuckanut Drive. If you are exhausted from all of your planning and in serious need of some pampering, head to their their spa. From here you will have an unobstructed view of Lummi Island, the ferry landing, and the lower village of Fairhaven. Enjoy dinner on the waterfront patio at their gourmet restaurant and wine bar Fino.

Where to Enjoy the Day

We all know the wedding couple will be too busy the weekend of their wedding, but wedding guests can spend the day meandering down Chuckanut Drive, a scenic route that connects Bellingham. The drive winds along the rocky cliffs of the Chuckanut Mountains, dropping away to stunning views of the San Juan Islands. Before embarking on this little adventure, your guests may be advised to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the shore at Larrabee Park, or they can make a stop to get fresh seafood (caught just off shore) at the Oyster Bar restaurant.

Sweet Treat

Indulge your sweet tooth by serving some of the delectable goodies made by local favorite Pure Bliss Desserts. If you feel like breaking tradition, you won’t be limited to a tiered wedding cake. Why not incorporate a full spread dessert bar. If you choose to do so, make sure to check out their Washington strawberry mascarpone tarts… yummy!

Gourmet Food to Dine

For a dining experience that your guests will not soon forget, have Ciao Thyme cater your event. This award winning, small, owner-operated business is unrivaled in this area, and, quite possibly, all of Washington State. These chefs create innovative menus that incorporate organic seasonal, local ingredients, whenever possible. To sample some of their mouthwatering creations, make dinner reservations at one of their “In the Kitchen” dinners which include: Incognito Dinners and Monday Night Supper series.

Where to Buy Your Brew

I feel this section {very appropriately} must cover the best cup of coffee in town and the best beer, because Bellingham is known for both. Every neighborhood has it’s own favorites and there are good cups of coffee to be found on almost every block, however, after trying Avellino coffee shop, you will not want to look any further. Just up the street you will find Boundary Bay Brewery. I think it is safe to assume this highly sought after, locally brewed beer will be a hudge crowd pleaser at your wedding. Again, going back to this town keeping things fresh, the list of beer options are always changing, so make sure to inquire about their most popular seasonal selection.
