So, Who is Paying for this Wedding Anyway?

The engagement ring has been bought, propsal was wonderful, date has been set! Yeahh!! Now its time to pay the bills, who pays for what? 
Lets break it down according to Tradition

Bride:
Groom's wedding band
Groom's wedding gift
Bridal attendants' gifts
Personal Statioery
Medical exam/blood test (if required)
Accommodations for any out of town attendants

Groom:
Bride's rings
Bride's wedding gift
Gifts for best man and ushers
Bride's bouquet
Mothers' corsages
Boutonnirres for attendants and fathers
Medical exam/blood test (if required)
Marriage license
Officiant's fee
Honeymoon
Accommodations for out of town ushers

Brides' Family:
Ceremony costs - Location, music, rentals, etc
Reception coswts - food, beverages, muswic, rentals, decorations, cake
Bride's wedding attire and accessories
Wedding invitations and postage
Bridesmaid's bouquets
Transportaqtion for the birdal party
Bridesmaids' luncheon
Photography
Floral decorations

Groom's Family:
Rehearsal dinner
Wedding night suite

Attendants:
pay for their own attire except for their flowers and travel expenses.

Ok, so much for tradition! Todays etiquette says that expenses can be divided with more flexibility to accommodate different financial situations, and different family structures.

Expenses can be split between the couple and their families. In this arrangement, expenses that would traditionally be paid by either family, would be put in one pool and split evenly between the two families.

Expenses to be shared by all.  All expenses can be split into thirds, the bride and groom would pay one-third, bride's family would pay one-third and the groom's family would pay one-third.

Each family could pay for their own guests. This helps eleviate any guest list awkwardness.  One family maybe much larger, therefore a larger guest list than the other, this arrangement allows each family to pay the per person price for the guests they are inviting.

One family pays for it all.  It does happen!  Either the groom's family or the bride's family may be in a position to pay for the entire wedding! 

There are many ways to pay for your wedding.  Choose the way that is most comfortable for you and your family situation.

Once the expenses are laid out, and everyone knows whats expected of them, its time to move on to the next step.......
