Wedding Professionals:

This blog post is the third part of a four-part blog series on the topic of email marketing. To recap, here is what you've learned so far:

Part 1 - 7 things you can email brides about.

Part 2 - 6 easy tips on how to get brides to open your emails.

Part 3 - 4 secrets of getting brides to click on your emails.

Part 4 - 2 free ways to collect more email addresses from brides.

For community members who are ready to learn more, here are 4 tips to get brides to click on your emails (after they’ve opened them).

  1. Personalize where possible. If you are able to, include a personalized salutation such as, “Dear Christine.” This immediately grabs the attention of your audience. They will start to think that the email message is customized for their needs and not just a mass message. The email service that I use each week, Constant Contact, enables me to personalize all of the emails that I send out. (Here's a free 60-day trial to Constant Contact for those of you who are interested).
  2. Establish one primary message. It’s been proven that communicating too many marketing messages at once will decrease your response rate. Your eNewsletter can discuss a few different topics but it is best to have just one primary message. Clearly state what that primary messages is and use short, concise language. I find that using bullets can also be helpful. Finally, your most important message should be “Above the Fold” or in the first, top half of your computer screen. This guarantees that your audience won’t have to scroll down to the bottom of their screen in order to read your primary message.
  3. Place an action button at the top AND bottom of the email. This button will catch your audience’s attention and it will let them know what you want them to do next. Usually you’ll want them to visit your website or call you. The action button should clearly state that. I personally like to use action buttons that say: Learn More or Click Here.
  4. Make sure that you include both text in your email as well as an image. The text version is for brides who use services like Gmail, which don’t display images by default. You’ll want to make sure that they too can read your email message at first glance.

Good list, Christine. I'd add only that you should include links for sharing via social media. I think Constant Contact allows you to do that easily - but that makes it so your message could easily end up in someone else's Facebook feed and land you more business.

I'm working on Constant Contact eNewsletters right now. I hired an intern and it just happens that she is engaged. I asked what she would look for in an email from a planner - and it's solid information! If you can link with a current or previous bride, this may help improve your email contact.

Autoresponders are da bomb! I'm an Aweber fan myself, but Constant Contact does the job, too.

Another cool thing to try is using a deadline for the action. You need them to click NOW when they read it; otherwise they will probably forget to come back to the email. If your message is about a discount, let them know that it expires on Friday. If you're selling a special item, "Only 3 left."

Great tips, Christine!
