Wedding Announcement Question?

I have read your discussions concerning wedding invitations and believe you make valid points concerning saving invitations.  As I am in the floral industry and usually not involved directly with invitations, I did have one question out of courisity.

I have heard some brides talk about their wedding announcement, some call it "save the date".  Quite a few have used magnets as their formal announcement.  I know they are practical but, don't you think they are a little tacky?

Perhaps I'm a little old fashioned but it seems traditional notification has gone out the window.
