I would like to know if there are any wedding planners out there who are self employed and don't have alliances with certain venues. I have been approached by a reception venue who wish to outsource me to do their wedding coordination and I'm not sure how to approach this with pricing since every wedding is different, the needs are different, the budgets vary etc . I have spoken to a few other Australian wedding planners but unless you are employed as a coordinator at the reception centre this is really an unknown area. So looking for some help and advice from US wedding planners.

While I do not do any planning, I am the "preferred" invitation vendor for a specific country club. We worked out that I give a certain percentage to the venue from each project I complete for them. All of my projects are custom so the prices range greatly. So, when I figure out a quote for a bridal couple, I increase it by the arranged % and offer that to the bridal couple . I invoice the venue for their cost and the bride's cost to the venue and the venue charges the bride. In your case, I think I would figure out a middle ground for pricing for a basic package and give the brides the option to upgrade: that way you can hopefully fulfill the needs of the majority of the brides. For those on a tight budget, perhaps create a promotion 2x a year and let them to know to make their arrangements then. I don't know if that was at all helpful, but I wish you the best!
Thank you - that gives me such a great insight. By adding the arranged percentage on top of your quote it will cover you from losing out on extra time spent and money! We will try and look at putting this into practice. Thanks heaps!
Hi Nadine, I am a self employed wedding planner in Las Vegas. I have packages for different types of coordinating. If they want it all I would work with the couple and the venue. My costs are averaged out to how many hours I will have to put in to accommodate the client. Also I work with vendors and they always give a certain discount for you using them.
