Upon my soon to be move to California, I'm considering changing my business name from "Kristin Joy Photography" to "Blue Palm Photography". Think it's a good idea? Below you will find my new logo and website concepts.

How did you decide your business name?
What convinced you of it?

I love the new name, but do you feel identified with the idea of having this name?

Well I am kinda known for my love of turquoise and palm trees so it seems to fit. At least in my own head.
So if you feel that way, let's do it. Sometimes you have to follow your instincts.
I like the name and the Turquoise color idea.
Hey Kristin,

What part of California are you moving to? I'm a wedding photographer in Temecula.
So here are my thoughts....
I started my business using the name "Vivid Memories Photography by Theresa," and I've been using that for about 6 years.
Since then, I've invested in Business Development gurus and consulting from some of the big name togs out there, and they all had one suggestion in common: use your name, and not a moniker. For example, Mike Colon, Jim Garner, Scarlett Lillian, Gene Higa, Ann Hamilton, Jasmine Star...... and on and on and on. So I launched Theresa Minnette Photography. I don't suggest keeping both going. Its pretty hard to keep them separate living in the same area.
The alias like Blue Palm would probably work well if you plan to have a large studio with numerous photographers under you. Think Bella! They can't use a name because they can't ever tell ya what tog you might get until close to the wedding. I wish I were in your situation and started using my name.....
Also, If you have loyal customers already, they may find ya more easily in the future if you stick to your known name.

Just my 2 cents....

My business is Lone Pine Photography, and I feel a little cleaner presenting images afterwards that a second might have shot even though I do the processing. Eventually, there are things I might outsource, like new baby shoots, some boudoir photography, etc...
I like Kristin joy to me it sounds very fresh and pesonal. Have you branded yourself? For marketing reasons I wouldn't Change it, but if your thinking you want a new start go for it!
My decision was to keep my look classy and fresh so I stayed with my first initial and last name. I like your Kristin joy. If you want a fresh start out here then go for it and brand yourself strong. Good luck my dear!
I used to go by my two first names Laura Karina Photography, then when I moved & got a website etc I changed it to LK Photography. Wish I never had. I've had to work alot harder for branding.
Good point by Lone Pine Photography in case you have other photographers working with you.
Hi! I'm not a photographer, but I am a Wedding Planner!! From first look and thought" Kristin Joy Photography" grabs my attention!! It is truly a stand out name!! I love your concept and logo for Blue Palm Photography as well. If anything it can be an added addition to your Kristin Joy Photography. For instance if your doing a Wedding I say Kristin Joy Photography is point on! If your doing baby showers, kids parties, etc I really like Blue Palm Photography! It just reminds me of a baby shower, idk why? :-) Either way good luck and go with your instincts and market yourself to the T! I wish you much luck on your journey!!!

Brittany!
