Have any of you ever donated your time and your passion to a charity such as Relay for Life? If so, can you share what goals you set and if and how you accomplished them?
Do you snap away for the 24 hours, candids or do you have a backdrop of sorts, get group pics, charge for them and submit all the revenues toward the charity?
All ideas, suggestions, warnings, etc welcome.

Hi Tina,
A friend/colleague and I are having a family portrait day in our home town. We are charging a greatly reduced session fee of $25 (normally $150), and that fee is going to be donated to Relay For Life. We are going to sign up familes every 20 minutes, so we think we can do about 28 sessions in one day. We will then post the images online and reprints will be at a slight discount, but those sales go to us. We are donating our time by reducing the session fee $125, and then we are donating the session fee of $25 to the charity. We are getting great community support - PTA offering to put us in their newsletter - things like this. We are not doing this at the actual relay - but just as an additional charitable event. Hope that helps.
Our area's relay is only a couple weeks away, not enough time to do this type of arrangement, but this would definitely work. Thank you!
I used to shoot for Turkey trot her in dallas, Several others where we shot for in the past. Currently I shoot for NILMDTS. We mostly did candids so we neverhad the need to set up a backdrop or lights. We never charged for charity work.
But I do know someone that had a day of portrits in the studio and all of the proceeds went to the charity.

Sandra-thanks for your reply. I want to tell you thank you for being one of the photographers for NILMDTS. I checked into in and don't believe I am a strong enough person to do it...but I greatly admire all that are.
Hi Tina - I have only shot one charity event... where I mostly did candids. I did not make many sales, so maybe your second option is the way to go?
Rick-thanks for your reply!
I just did an auction through my blog for the Tour De Cure. I'm donating all the $$$ to them. Lesson learned though - put the minimum bid closer to what your session normally goes for.
Thanks Michele...something to keep in mind.
I am a volunteer for NILMDTS. (nilmdts.org) if you are not familiar with it, we provide professional portraiture to parents of infants or neonates that don't get the chance at life. either they are born preterm, or pass away after birth. all sessions are done in the hospital room, usually with natural light. we pay $25 a year to be a member, and we take calls as they come in through the area coordinator for each hospital. it is a wonderful way to give back to the community, provide something that gives parents a lasting memory, and a way to deal with their loss.

Jacqueline-I know myself enough to know that I am not a strong enough individual to be a part of NILMDTS. I truly commend all of you who are. Thank you for doing the work that you do.
