Pasadena Museum of History earned a reputation for hosting special events as early as 1912, when legendary film director D.W. Griffith used the Fenyes Estate Gardens as the location for his film When Kings Were the Law. Today the Museum is a sought after spot for filming and private events - including weddings, meetings, and retreats.

The lushly landscaped grounds include a shady oasis of towering trees and abundant ferns harbors the quaint Finnish Folk Art Museum, just steps away from the History Center's Exhibition Gallery and Library facilities, all falling within the backdrop of the Fenyes Mansion. Hundreds of exotic crinum lilies and amaryllis belladonna bloom throughout the spring and summer months beside a meandering stream that cuts across the property.

Fenyes Mansion

The Beaux-Arts Fenyes Mansion is unique historically, having housed four generations of the Fenyes-Curtin-Paloheimo family, with the original décor of the early 1900s preserved largely unchanged. PMH docents offer tours of the historic home that provide a glimpse into the lifestyle of Eva Scott Fenyes and her family, and interpret the architecture, artworks, and furnishings within the context of early 20th century Pasadena history. The Fenyes Mansion was designated a Pasadena Cultural Heritage Landmark in 1965 and a California Point of Historical Interest in 1993. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
