Three Words: Location! Location! Location!

Shortly after we were engaged, Chris and I started our wedding planning by beginning our search for a wedding location. We had a few criteria that we were working with. First, we wanted to a place that was easily accessible for all of our guests, whether by car or by plane. We also decided that we wanted to have our ceremony and reception at the same location to avoid added transportation costs as well as any hassles that would come from getting our guests from place to… Continue

Printing Solid Colors in Letterpress

Printing solids with any printing method always raises special issues that must be addressed. In letterpress printing there are some unique ones.

One of the most notable issues is the ink coverage. The solid area may appear somewhat mottled since the Crane's Lettra paper we use is unsized, making the paper softer to take a better impression. When paper is sized, as most papers are today, it will receive ink more evenly, since the sizing acts like a coating on the… Continue

Using Solid Colors in Design with Letterpress

You all know I am a fan of color. With almost any design, a variety of color will most likely enhance the overall product. Recently people have been asking me if it is possible to use solid colors with letterpress. This is an interesting question that does not have one simple answer.

Yes, obviously we can use a solid color in a letterpress design.

How Are New Colors Picked? Pantone Color Forecast for 2010

As I was recently surfing around the webosphere, I stumbled upon this really fascinating video clip on youtube. While I understand that most of you probably are not interested enough to sit through 10 minutes of discussion about colors, I found the clip to be very illuminating (in more ways than one).

You will certainly learn something new about commercial colors, how they are ‘created’ and what influences their design.

Letterpress and Love in Literature Dead Man’s Cell Phone Part Deux

As I have said before, every year I like to attend the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. I had never heard of Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone before, but I am absolutely thrilled that I got the chance to see it. Not only did the actors do a superb job performing a wonderful story, but, there were a couple very positive references to letterpress printing that I do not often see in works of art.

Wedding Trends to Look for and Follow Wedding Invitations that are both Smart and Stylish in the 2010’s

Trends, styles and movements are changing at an incredible pace. Sometimes I think I am being hip and showing off my awesome cultural knowledge only to realize that I am about three months past the up-to-date news flash. Even still, in the world of wedding invitations I feel like I am on top of my game…most of the time.

When thinking about the brides of the 2010’s (I cannot believe I am already saying that) there are certainly going to be some serious changes in the way that… Continue

Letterpress in Literature Dead Man’s Cell Phone

Every summer I make it a point to visit the Ashland Shakespeare Festival at least once. Over the years I have seen most of the traditional Shakespearian plays performed, so this time I thought I would try something new. Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone is the delightful story of meaning and personal relationships in our crazy world of modern technology.

Plan Your Wedding From Your iPhone The Mobile Bride Finds Her Freedom

I just recently purchased a new iPhone. For four years I proudly sported that old Nokia brick phone that everyone seemed to have at one point. But needless to say it was certainly time to try something new. A couple of my friends had told me about the awesome applications that are available, but until I actually explored Apple’s “App Store” I really had no idea how many were out there. Not that I believe everything that I hear, but when their advertisements say “if you want to do X, there’s an… Continue

Weddings Traditions From Around The World and Throughout History

What Exactly Does "Tying The Knot" Mean?

I was thinking about this question the other day when I was in a pensive mood. Where does this term originate from geographically, and what types of knots were being tied to finalize marriage? Who does the tying and what did it signify? Of course, as with most things, there are several different cultural meanings that may or may not be related.

After a couple searches on Google, I found that the first place this term was used was in… Continue

Sometimes Old Machines Work Best Today’s Wedding Invitations With Yesteryears Let

Did you ever have something that was obviously much older than the newer models but you refused to get rid of because it worked so well? Some things were built in an age when craftsmanship and a long life were valued over inexpensive, up to date, expendable products.

Not that I do not love technology and the newest gadgets as much as the next person, but sometimes it’s hard to improve upon something that works well. Take printing for example. Computers, software programs, digital… Continue

What You Want, When You Want It Letterpress Wedding Invitations For You

We work hard. Folding flyers, cutting paper, running presses, designing works of art as well as business pieces, suffice to say we have our hands full. As you have probably experienced at your own jobs, whenever one project ends another seems to be due tomorrow. It is not so bad though, we keep busy and enjoy each other’s company so I never really have a chance to be bored.

Choosing The Right Colors For Your Letterpress Wedding Invitation Font and Design

I love colors. I try to surround myself in a variety of contrasting and complementing colors. At home, at work and even with the clothes I wear, I am enthralled by unique and spirited colors. Colors with names like floral white or Alice blue make me laugh and I even have this design book where you can flip through different home scenes and move different color swatches back and fourth to see what it could look like with a different combination. Suffice to say, I think the more color the… Continue
