10 Tips for Selecting Your Wedding Invitations

Starting with your wedding invitations, everything about your wedding should reflect your own personal style. Today’s couples are doing everything they can to uniquely personalize their wedding day.

You’ve probably already chosen the location, theme and color(s) of your wedding. Since your invitations are an introduction to your wedding, they should mirror your choices and ultimately your personalities and style.

Wedding invitations used to be very traditional in their color and style. Today, they come in a wide range of exciting colors, designs, sizes and themes to reflect the creativity of modern wedding couples.

Your invitation options are truly unlimited. There are designs based on seasons, hobbies, color combinations, themes, ceremony locations, ethnic backgrounds, flowers, etc. Your wedding stationery can have a modern contemporary look or they might be more simple and formal in style.

Your choices don’t end with the wedding invitation design itself. There’s the font style and ink color. Again, there is an impressive selection of fonts to fit any type of design, but keep in mind you want to choose an easy-to-read style for your guests. The fancier the style, the more difficult it usually is to read. Ink color choices are also plentiful to match your wedding colors.

Here are some questions for you to consider when choosing your invite design:

  • What is your wedding invitation budget?
  • In what season will your wedding take place?
  • In what type of setting are you getting married – church, formal, casual, outdoor, destination?
  • Is there an overall theme to your wedding?
  • What is the color scheme of your wedding?
  • Do you want to emphasize an ethnic or religious theme?
  • What type of flowers are you having in your wedding?
  • Do you want to include your picture to create photo wedding invitations?
  • Do you want to 'go green' with your wedding invitations?
  • Should the style be traditional or contemporary?

Another great idea for personalizing your wedding invitation is to include a special quotation, a favorite Bible verse or words from a sentimental song. Many times the company printing your invites will have a large variety of sample verses. Just be sure your chosen style has enough room for these extra lines of printing.

Your wedding invitations should be uniquely personal, just like your ceremony and reception. With all of today’s gorgeous choices, you’re sure to find the perfect style you love.
