3 Alternatives To A Traditional Wedding Cake

As the years go by, more and more wedding day traditions are being reimagined and reinvented by modern couples looking to make their big day all the more unique and personal. Whilst a traditional fruit wedding cake will never fully go out of style, couples are coming up with fun new ideas for their wedding cake.

No matter if you’re just not a fan of the standard traditional wedding care, or love one specific sweet treat, then your wedding cake is a great chance to show off a unique side to your relationship. With that in mind, here are 3 alternative wedding cake ideas!

Savoury Cheese Cake

If you don’t have a sweet tooth, then why not consider a literal cheese cake instead? Choose a couple of wheels of your favourite cheeses and serve at the end of your wedding meal with accompaniments such as crackers, chutneys and breads.

You can decorate a cheese cake just as you would a baked cake with greenery, flowers and the obligatory couple figure at the top. Cheese cake tastings can be more fun than traditionally baked cakes and if you can find a local cheesemonger, you’ll likely be invited to an evening tasting where the cheese will be paired with wine!

Dessert Table

If you can’t settle on one cake, then why not have a selection of your favourites with a dessert table! For this, you’ll just need to decorate a table (the size depends on your number of guests) with flowers, greenery and candles and place bite-size versions of your favourite bakery products around the table. You can add to the table decor further with some dainty china plates and nice cake forks and spoons.

An Array of Cupcakes & Pops

If you have quite a large wedding party, then a traditional wedding cake might not be the best option, especially if a lot of people want a taste! Instead, your budget might be better spent on a selection of cupcakes and cake pops for guests to grab as the evening goes on. If you still want to cut a traditional cake, then you can get a nice cake stand and place a cake tier at the top for you and your husband or wife to cut together. You can get cupcakes and cake pops decorated in line with your colour theme and display them nicely on a stand or table.

Don’t be afraid to break tradition and choose a sweet (or savoury!) treat that says something about the two of you as a couple and what you will actually look forward to eating at the end of your wedding!
