This week’s blog is all about doing things a little differently, with a little help from Dr. Seuss.

Last week Rob and I decided to buck the trend and, this is radical for us, go out on a Thursday night. Crazy I know. Even more radical we went to a series of random ‘Lost Lectures’ in a chapel in North London, decked out with stuffed seagulls and fairy lights.

The Lost Lectures is ‘a community for those who love new ideas and original experiences’. They arrange talks by eclectic speakers in secret locations across London with the purpose of inciting imagination and curiousity.

We heard Henrik Dahle speak about climbing a tree every day, inviting people (from poets and economists to a belly dancer and a plastic cow) to join him for a chat. Next up was Allwyn Collinson who has just begun a 6 year project to tweet about WW2 in real time (he already has over 240,000 followers on twitter!) and, for the fashionistas, we heard blogger Sasha Wilkins, aka Liberty Girl London.

All in all, pretty random, slightly weird but very entertaining! I would recommend going if you can. Experiencing new ideas is really good for the soul. Now, and I swear this is true, since then I’ve had at least 3 really creative and exciting ideas for the website. All will be revealed in time. *taps side of nose furtively*

So, then I got to thinking, this is exactly the environment we are aiming to create for all you ingenious ruby+diva couples.

The ruby+diva approach to wedding planning is that there are no set rules and you can mix it up however you like.

You don’t need to have a theme as such or panic about everything being designer, vintage, DIY, or unique. Just have a few special touches that mean something to you both and it will all be wonderful. Cross my heart.

So, with a rather tenuous link to our night out last week, my top tip if you are worrying about coming up with original ideas, is to get out and about at random events with your lovely other half. Let go and have fun, then the ideas will flow. You might see a fantastic band, a wonderful piece of art you love or an unusual colour scheme that you can incorporate into your day to make your day truly about you.
