In a pioneering effort to promote social change, Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar of Jodhpur Range has launched a unique initiative called Operation Neh Nimantran in Rajasthan’s Marwar region. Under this campaign, couples and institutions that include messages such as ‘No Dowry’, ‘Simple Wedding’, ‘Girls = Boys’ and ‘Drug-Free Event’ on their engagement or wedding cards will be rewarded with special discounts on printing costs.
This innovative approach aims to spread awareness against drug abuse and encourage progressive values through the very fabric of community celebrations. Marwar, renowned for its rich cultural traditions and hospitality, has long battled the acceptance of opium and poppy husk use at social events, often justified as tradition.
In partnership with the printing press association, the police are offering tiered discounts for writing ‘drug-free event’ on invitation cards: 5% in Jodhpur rural areas, 10% in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Sirohi, and 20% in Balotra and Jalore.
Organisers who submit a copy of their drug-free invitation to the relevant Superintendent of Police or Inspector General office will receive an official congratulatory letter, personally delivered by a beat constable during their event.
