Cosmetic Surgery Before Your Wedding : Bigger Risks Or Reward?

Cosmetic surgery has become as mainstream as getting a hair change. Soon-to-be brides are factoring in such procedures in their pre-wedding prep, but what sort of risks are presented when changing your appearance for a day that prioritises your look? On one hand, when looking at celebrities who have undergone treatment, the recovery process is thereabouts undetectable, and we see them as their new selves from one second to another. On the other hand, it's important to recognise the risks that come with invasive treatments, especially when performed so soon before a day when appearances matter.

In this blog, we will cover just a few cosmetic treatments soon-to-be brides are getting, including whether there is greater risk or reward in having them done before our wedding. Take a look at the following:

Lip Lifts

Starting with one of the least talked about but most performed tweakments, lip lifts have gained popularity in the last few years. A seamless yet transformative procedure, the lip lift aims to shorten the distance between the top lip and nose while exposing more of the pink element on the mouth to create a fuller pout. Although many have gone for the lip filler option for more voluminous lips, this has recently fallen out of fashion for looking too puffy and also displacing overall facial symmetry. Hyaluronic filler also requires topping up every 3-6 months, which is not as permanent of a solution as the lip lift.

Pros - The pros of having lip lifts are the permanent and natural results that it results in. People often appear more youthful and have a newfound confidence in their day to day.

Cons - The lip lift is an invasive treatment, and comes with possible risks. For example, it might take your lips a few months to completely heal, and permanent scarring is possible. For brides-to-be, this is not ideal when appearances need to be perfect.

Time frames - If you wish to have a lip lift, it would be ideal to have this surgery at least 6 months prior to the big day to allow swelling to heal entirely. Keep in mind that during this time you should have minimal exposure to sunlight also to prevent the scarring from becoming permanent.

Piezo Rhinoplasty

The rhinoplasty was once the king of nose transformations, but those days are over. The most experienced surgeons in the world are not referring their patients to the piezo rhinoplasty procedure. This clever technique uses ultrasonic waves that dispense from the piezo tool to shave down bone and cartilage, all the while not damaging tissue or surrounding areas at all. For brides looking for a nasal transformation with minimal downtime, this has become the go-to treatment.

Pros - As touched on, the piezo rhinoplasty technique is specially designed to require minimal incisions, and precise fractures to the bone and cartilage, meaning your perfect nose can be shaped with less risk and trauma. With this, you can expect much faster recovery times than the traditional rhinoplasty, which is key when wedding bells are approaching.

Cons - Piezo rhinoplasty still imposes risk as a cosmetic surgery, so patients will experience swelling and discomfort anywhere from two weeks to 3 months.

Time frames - If you are considering piezo rhinoplasty before your wedding, it would be best to have to leave at least 3 months before your surgery and wedding date. This will allow the majority of swelling to go down.

Tummy tucks

Tummy tucks are another favourite for brides who want that extra level of confidence in their body image before getting married. Whether you have lost weight or you’re a mother, tummy tucks can be effective in tightening the abdominal muscles and removing excess skin.

Pros - Tummy tucks are great for strengthening the core while also reducing any excess skin that may be visible. When finding the right wedding dress, can cause some concern for brides looking to fit into their perfect dress. With that being said, tummy tucks are a procedure that should be done well in advance of your wedding due to the wedding dress needing to be tailored correctly.

Cons - Tummy tucks pose a number of risks such as scarring and adverse reactions to anesthesia. You will also be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 6 weeks.

Time frames - to plan for all case scenarios, we would recommend having your tummy tuck at least 12 months prior to your wedding. This will give you enough time to priestly recover, while also leaving enough time to find the perfect fitting dress well in advance to the wedding.

Overall

Overall, deciding whether the surgery of your desires will impose greater risk or reward is an entirely personal decision. You need to ask yourself how important this surgery is and what benefits it will bring to your quality of life, as opposed to simply looking good for your wedding day. Always make sure you are working with a qualified plastic surgeon in London to ensure the utmost safety.
