Destination weddings on a   tropical island is very popular with couples from abroad. Imagine…….. yearlong sunny weather, lush tropical locations,  romantic sunsets and much more! But when planning a destination wedding there are a number of things you have to take into account before getting married on the destination of you choice.

Below you will find some formalities you need to know when getting married In Curacao. 

There are different options:

  1. A civil ceremony in your own country before coming to Curacao, then a religious or spiritual ceremony or blessing in Curacao.
    You can have a civil marriage in your own country before coming to Curacao. When you come to Curacao Elegant Weddings & Events can arrange for you to have either a religious or spiritual service on any of the beautiful locations Curacao has to offer.
  2. A civil ceremony at The historical Town Hall “Casa Blanca”.
  3. A Civil Ceremony on a boat, a beach, in a country house, a hotel or any other beautiful location on Curacao.
    For a ceremony on any of these locations you will need six witnesses. If needed Elegant Weddings & Events can arrange this for you.

Documentation:At least 3 months before the wedding both Bride and Groom must provide the following: 

  •  A letter of Non-impedement (a document from the Government agency that records  their home State/province that proves that by their records both parties are presently unmarried and are therefore free to be married to each other)
  •  A certified copy of his and her birth certificate in long form which shows the names of both their birth parents or proof of adoption or name changes if applicable. 
  •  A certified summary from the civil administration with home address, nationality and marital status.
  •  An Apostille/legalization that verifies the signature on these documents.
  •  The original application form of Elegant Weddings & Events signed by both the groom and the bride.
  •  Valid copy of passport of both partners
  •  Optional:If you have children, we need the original birth register/ birth certificate(s) of your children ( council office / birth place) so they can be mentioned in the marriage booklet you will receive during the ceremony.
  •  If divorced or widowed a certified copy  of the marriage certificate, divorce certificate or declaration of dead form of the previous partner ( council office where the marriage took place
  •  A proof of a certificate of your religion where you are united, if you want your marriage to be blessed on the Island.
  •  A signed service agreement for Elegant Weddings & Events to arrange your wedding. (will be mailed to you)
  •  Your documents must not be older than 6 months and must be original documents (with the exeption for the copy of your pasport).  

Documents witnesses:

  • A Copy of valid passport (age minimum 18 years )
  • All witnesses and the couple must be at least 18 years old

Note:
The marriage certificate is issued in Dutch, so a notarized translation (in English) will be included in our Destination Weddings packages for couples from the US. Also included are FedEx postal charges to the US.
