For casual parties eliminate access waste by swapping conventional paper plates with biodegradable or compostable plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. These earth-friendly disposable dinnerware options are made from renewable resources, such as bagasse (a sugarcane fiber that remains after the juice has been extracted from sugarcane plants), corn and ingeo (a natural plastic made from renewable resources). Companies like Branch Homeeven carry biodegradable party kits, which include sturdy FDA-approved biodegradable tableware products, with service for 50.

we used these for our green wedding! since we were getting married outside in a garden it blended right in! Our wedding was small and we thought it was important to to stay true to our believes even if it was a wedding! It also kept the cost down- who needs fancy china!! We did however use real silverware.

Over the years we've had durable-but-not-china plates which we've reused - but that's always involved lots of washing up. It's been great not to fill the trash can but hard work after the guests have gone home. We (well, my husband) does a lot of composting - so I'll be passing this company's info along to him. Thanks for sharing this, Angela!
