DIY Ideas for a Holiday Dinner Party

With the holidays being upon us I figured why not do a special DIY Friday post with inspirational ideas for hosting a holiday dinner party. I am a huge DIY'er and DIY fan! (Side note: I can't wait until we buy a house next year so I can DIY-myself crazy with holiday decor and dinner parties!) When it comes to hosting an awesome dinner party there are a couple must-haves to create the perfect ambiance = great company + amazing food + beautiful ambiance/decor + awesome music! Pull this off and you will have your friends talking about your amazing party for weeks.  (Don't forget to join the holiday spirit and buy a Christmas tree.)

Whether you are planning a large Christmas holiday get-to-gether or an intimate dinner, after you decide on your guestlist, you'll want to plan the decor & the menu (food & drinks/libations). Due to all the wonderful ideas I have to share with you, I have decided to split these two elements {Decor & Menu} into two separate posts - make sure you come back tomorrow for some amazing food and drink inspiration and recipes for a tasty dinner party!

{DECOR}

You will definitely want set the tone for your Christmas dinner party, so it is important for you to utilize the decor to create the perfect ambiance for your guests.  To get your creative juices going, here are some decor ideas (with photo examples):

  • Votives & Candles (make sure to distribute them throughout the entire event space) - I would recommend Mercury or gold glass votives in various sizes, heights, and shapes. You can also use clear votives and wrap them with a piece of your favorite ribbon, twine, or fabric.

  • Pine Cones - Scented pine cones would be an awesome selection if your guests are not sensitive to scents. You can use frosted pine cones, brown pine cones, or choose to paint your pinecones, dip them in glitter, or string them to make a garland. (Check out these pine cone crafts!)

  • Christmas Tree Branches - Cut some bottom hanging Christmas tree branches from your tree and use them as decoration around your centerpiece, on your mantle or dinner table, or as part of a centerpiece.

  • Gold chargers and gold decor accents - Use the gold chargers for intimate dinners at your table. Make sure to include gold decor accents (bulbs, ribbon, candleholders, ornaments, figurines, etc) on the table and around your event space.

Ever thought that you could never afford to buy linens for a dinner party or event? Me too!
