How to Find Good Housing After Your Marriage Day

One of the first decisions a newlywed couple has to make together is where to live after they are married. Finding a new place to live after the wedding may seem like a small consideration, but it’s very important to getting your married life off to the right start. Here are four tips for finding good housing after you get married.

Consider Buying a Small Starter Home

Unless you’re both high income earners, you likely won’t be able to afford a large house right after you get married. What you can do, though, is buy an inexpensive starter house to live in for a few years until you save up the money to buy something larger. Your starter home should be large enough for yourselves and one child if you plan to have kids right away. Beyond that, though, it only needs to be an affordable place to live while you build your careers and save for a more permanent home.

Look Into Apartments

For some couples, renting an apartment is better than buying a home. Renting allows you to avoid the hassle of dealing with maintenance. It’s also a good idea if you think you might move out of the area in the next couple of years. Contrary to popular belief, you can get exceptional housing quality in an apartment. Luxury apartments offer young couples all the comforts of high end housing without actually having to buy. No matter what your budget and housing preferences are, you should have no trouble finding an apartment that meets your needs.

Consider a Condo

A comfortable middle ground between renting an apartment and buying a home is purchasing a condo. In a condo arrangement, you buy and own the property, but you’ll still be living in a subdivided unit inside a larger property. The huge advantage of a condo is that you and your spouse can renovate or upgrade it as you want, which you usually can’t do in a rented apartment.

Buy a Duplex

One of the options many newlywed couples overlook is purchasing a duplex and renting out one unit while living in the other. This arrangement can reduce your cost of living, allowing you to save a large amount of your income. When you’re ready to move out, you’ll be able to rent out the unit you were previously living in. Once the property is paid off, you’ll have an income-generating rental that will help set you up for future financial success.

Any one of these options can be the right choice for your housing after marriage. The best one will depend on what you and your spouse are ready to spend and what kind of lifestyle you prefer.
