Getting married is one of the most exciting times in anyone's life, but it can be very stressful. Not everyone wants a large wedding or even a white wedding. Smaller, more intimate weddings are now extremely popular, where just a handful of your loved ones will be attending. Why would you want to invite a load of people that you don’t really know? Instead, by offering a more intimate wedding, you can offer a less formal wedding.

Many people are now moving away from large weddings for micro-weddings with no more than 20 people in them. Formal weddings are great, but that's not for everyone. People like to be different, so in this article, we will go through some ways in which you can make your wedding less formal. From wearing designer trainers and trousers to no seating plans, we will have you scatting around barefoot in no time.

Only invite your loved ones

If you want an informal wedding, you need to ensure that you only select a small guest list. You are even allowed to say no to plus ones if you want. Every person that you want to invite should be close to you in some way or mean a lot to you. A great way of doing this is by asking yourself and your partner if they have seen them in the past 6 months, if not, don’t invite them. Would you go for a catch-up with them? If not, you know what to do. This may feel harsh, but you don’t want to feel awkward on the best day of your life.

Ditch the seating plan

One of the best ways to make your wedding less formal is to ditch the seating plan altogether. It's a great way to take one of the big stresses out of the process. Nobody likes being put next to people they don’t know, so ensuring people can sit wherever they want will make your life much easier, it will make the wedding less formal, and your guests will be happier too. Just ensure that there are enough tables and chairs for people to sit at if you are having a meal.

Choose the right music

Music is a must when it comes to a wedding. Everyone likes a dance and some atmosphere, so ensure that the music is up to scratch. If you want an informal wedding, slow balids and boring music just won’t cut it. Instead, opt for fun music that everyone knows and loves as this will ensure that you have people on the dance floor. From a live band, to a simple DJ, there are plenty of options out there to give your guests some entertainment. Depending on the length of the wedding, having a band during the reception is a great option, but ensure that it isn't formal music as people will feel underdressed if you have an informal wedding.

There are many ways to make a wedding less formal, but allowing a range of music, casual attire and a free for all seating plan will work great.
