About the venue

Okay, I know we have said it before, but you just can't get better than the view at 1 Fort Mason. Like so many others decisions, one of the decisions that will make your wedding reception memorable is Location, Location, Location. I love 1 Fort Mason for the couple who is entertaining out-of-town guests. The bar area is so incredibly perfect. The large bay window that arcs out towards Alcatraz and the Golden Gate can not give you a more complete and serene look at San Francisco's waterfront. I love this wedding not only because it is designed by our very own Alicia Falango of Alicia K Designs, but because it is so "out of the box." 1 Fort Mason has an eclectic mix of old-world styling and Victorian accents these touches may lead you to believe that a wedding with a more modern vibe may be out of place- but take a look at this incredible celebration.

The large paned window cover the expanse of the dining rooms are a neutral starting point for good design and they give every guest the perfect "window" table. The long King's tables look amazing and the silk orange cushions paired with the crisp white linen and the white chiavari chairs are so fun. The table scape is fun and whimsical with a snippet of a modern flare. The different sized small vases with a single Gerber Daisy in either orange or pink create a burst of color down the center of the table. The old-fashioned supper club that has been created is the perfect blend of memorable and modern.

This was such a fun event to design. Our clients were both aeronautical engineers and wanted the event to be as far from their "textbook" life as possible. They wanted it to be fun, flirty, and elegant with surprises around every corner.

The venue was picked because the bride grew up in the Marina and really wanted a bay view. She wanted her guests to fall in love with "the city by the bay." The groom was from the South so we decided that horns were the way to go for the music. They really got the party started when we had the guests follow them into the reception from the ceremony.

Some fun touches: I wanted to find a fun way to bring in their love of all things in the sky, so I created a paper airplane guestbooks. Guests were asked to pick a paper airplane and send the couple off with well wishes! We decided that we wanted to create the feeling of a super club so after dinner the guests made their way to the a room reminiscent of a old school super club, complete with banquets and booths facing the band. This is when Pop Fiction really got the group dancing. We even had "candy" girls walk around just as you would see back in the day!

Picking the colors was so fun, as the bride wanted it to be bright and colorful so we went all out, but we kept white our base color to bring in a bit of elegance! All in all, this was one of our favorite events as the clients really let us have fun. ~ Alicia Falango.
