About the venue

The union street address and the famed "Beefeater" doorman may give you the feeling that the Sir Francis Drake Hotel is all about pomp and circumstance. Well, put that notion aside - this classic hotel has so much more to offer. The Sir Francis Drake is definitely a place where you can be seen - from the stylish lounge on the mezzanine area to the famed Chrystal chandeliers in the Empire Ballroom, I love how this incredible piece of San Francisco history can transform your wedding vision with minimal effort.

Harry Denton's Starlight Room has been a favorite among the young urban crowd for decades. Each year the club, music, and decore change to make sure that the current group of hipsters are just as comfy. If you want a more modern vibe with an incredible chef and menu, check out this amazing space with panoramic views of The Bay, The Gate, and The City... gorgeous.

The incredible wedding featured above is brought to us by none other than the extremely talented Misti Layne and Laurel Designs. When we first saw this wedding, we were mesmerized by the bride's ultra-bright smile, but even more than that, we love how all the details of this wedding fit perfectly into the classic charm of the Sir Francis Drake. Here are a few thoughts about this incredible event from the photographer and florist.

There was a very special energy between the bride and groom that came through in the planning and on the wedding day itself, and was expressed in the beauty that they created. All the vendors fell in love with them and we all had such a great time bringing their vision to life. They trusted each of us to work to our highest level, and that kind of confidence from our clients turns our work into our fun! Plus they chose a wonderfully classic style for the entire day that suited the venue perfectly and created a sophisticated atmosphere for their guests to enjoy.

The Sir Francis Drake Hotel is an Art Deco gem, right in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square District. The historic design details throughout the property are breathtaking, creating an elegant and truly San Francisco backdrop for bridal couples and their guests. The staff has decades of experience in creating beautiful events, and they have a dedicated wedding specialist, Robin Lewis, who understands what it takes to give her clients a magical and stress-free wedding day. There are several great spaces within the hotel, from the intimate Renaissance Room to the full-size Empire Ballroom, plus the newly-renovated Starlight Room with its panoramic views and sexy club vibe. Finally, all the food for events at the Drake is created by their award-winning chef, Jen Biesty, who was a finalist in 'Top Chef,' and by their pastry chef, Tim Nugent, who was also a finalist in 'Top Chef' for desserts. The menu selections are creative and the final product is fine dining, not 'banquet food!'~ Misti Layne and Laurel Designs.
