January 2016

Love.  What a big topic for a little blog. So many things we can say about love and yet, let me ask you a simple question. Do you love yourself?

I can hear my own lightning quick answer, "Well, of course, I do."

And I do love myself. So I ask the next level of questions. How can you love yourself more completely, more sincerely, more profoundly in a way you know you could be loved and in a way you know you deserve to be loved? Have you ever looked yourself in the eye, in a mirror of course, and told yourself you really loved you? What happened next? Did you feel a rush of energy move up from your heart to your eyes? Did you see your eyes open wider and get brighter? Or did you look away from the mirror and say... "This is silly, who am I talking to anyway?"

Whatever your response, observing it is the jewel.  Slowing down and noticing your thoughts and body reactions when you talk about love contains important information for you. From this vantage point, you can choose a direction to deepen and strengthen your love in 2016.  Now isn't that a resolution worth keeping?

For couples, especially those planning to marry in 2016, here is a super question to ask your intended.  Simply ask, how can I love you better this year?  In fact this is a great question to ask every year on your anniversary or New Years Day. Can't think of a better resolution than that of loving better. I sigh deeply thinking about being asked this question and I delve deeper into myself thinking about the intimacy involved in asking someone how I can love them better. Who doesn't want to be loved more deeply?

Either which way, it begins with you loving yourself more completely. And by asking intimate questions such as this, you must have a pool of resources to draw upon.  You can find them in the mirror, in your own eyes.  So, ask yourself first, how you can learn to love you better.  Then you can become an ally in love with your partner and your partner with you. Soon, you will see that your partner IS your mirror.  That is how all great love stories begin and end!

Here's to making 2016 the best love year ever.
