Weddings in Macedonia vary greatly from more modern weddings. Imagine the echo of the drums through Mount Bistra and the river valley Radika. The weddings customs are passed down for many generations, and weddings are a huge part of the many festivities that take place in Macedonia. Weddings typically start on a Saturday with the traditional mother-in-low dance. There are lots of festivities that start at the groom's home. Girls and boys dress up in the traditional clothes of the Galicnik. The grandparents dance the “Hard Dance”, or the Teskoto. This is also be called whale dancing. It symbolizes the difficult past and the happy time of the wedding.

 



On the second day of the wedding, the groom and his immediate family invite the Godfather to join the wedding. A common ritual in Macedonia is the ceremonial groom's shave, and the singing of customary songs, such as “Nejke zetot berber da go brici, tuk mi saka mlad pobratim...". The special custom of the “Bodinjanje” takes place when all of the in-laws race to the bride's house|home}.
