Succumb by the desire to obtain “cute” shoes many people disregard the importance of comfort.  The craving for fancy shoes is understandable, but certain considerations should be made before you settle on the most glamorous pair of shoes.

  • How long will you be stuck in your shoes? This should include time getting ready, possibly helping set up and clean up for the wedding, and not just the allotted time for the ceremony and reception.
  • Do you have time to break the shoes in? NEVER wear brand new shoes to a wedding. Wear your shoes prior to the event; doing this will allow you the opportunity to go out and purchase another pair of shoes if they are painful.
  • Have you worn shoes like this (backless, high heels, etc) before? If you have not you will need time to practice. Whether you are the bride or a bridesmaid, you don’t want to walk awkwardly on the special day.

Some people assume or get it in their head that nice shoes automatically mean heels. This is just not the case. There are plenty of choices for bridal shoes. If heels is within your comfort zone I see no problem with it. However, for a lot of people heels do pose potential problems that could be avoided by just avoiding heels completely.

Heels are in no way a necessity. There are other options. Just because shoes don’t have heels does not make them less glamorous. Look at the flats pictured from Sistar Shoes, http://www.sistarshoes.com.au/ . There is no denying that those dazzling shoes fall short of glamorous.  If you aren’t comfortable with ordering from a company out of the country do not fret. Despite my utter confidence in the company, there are other companies similar to them found within the United States as well.

Perhaps glamorous isn’t quite what you want. Personalized flip flops, flip flops with style, and bridal flip flops are available. All the flip flops pictures are from Rock The Flops, http://www.etsy.com/shop/rocktheflops?ref=si_shop. They have a large variety of hand crafted custom designed flip flops.  You can make a DIY project for yourself or order from them with the added convenience that they will do all the work for you.

Shoe options are not very limited. You just have to look. There are so many varieties of shoes available there is no reason to feel confined to wearing a pair of heels that will leave you uncomfortable and that you may have difficulty walking in.

It is your wedding; the most important thing is that it is what you want. If you want heels do not let this article detour you. Pick the shoes you want, just choose responsibly.
