Getting married during the winter months can be a very magical time of year. The air is a bit colder, the sky is a bit darker and yet love can make everything seem warm. When you are planning your winter wedding you want to keep in mind some great fun flower options for your big day. During the winter months there are many great flowers to choose from that are in season and there are also some great foliage mix-ins that you can use to bring the joy of the season to life.

Some fun flower options for your winter wedding require you to think a bit outside the box. You will have the choice of roses any time of the year. Just keep in mind that with roses the cost will go up around Valentine's Day. You could choose to do a winter wonderland theme and have all white roses with ice covered twigs in large vases on all the tables. You could choose to echo the look of holly berry and do red roses mixed in with pine branches. You could do a traditional Victorian look with icy blue table cloths and yellow tea roses in low pitchers on the tables with lots and lots of candles.

If you wanted to get more creative with your flower choice then you should consider amaryllis. The amaryllis come in red, white or pink and the potted flowers stand about two feet tall. Placing an amaryllis on either side of the Alter or as the centerpiece to your table makes a great statement very simply.

When you are planning the bouquet that you and your maids will be holding consider flower options outside from the traditional tight bouquet. A lovely idea would be to have the flower girl or junior bridesmaids carry a wreath made of holly berry and pine cones. You could then have the bridesmaids hold two foot swags of pine with roses or carnations mixed in. If you want to be more sentimental then a great idea would be to have all the parents holding deep red winter roses and while you come down the isle they all hand the flowers to the bride and you have a hand tied arrangement by the time you get to the Alter.

For the tables at the reception there are fun ways to incorporate flowers with non-traditional centerpieces. Place a low silver bowl on the table and float the heads of the amaryllis. If you are having a very classy wedding then you may decide to have tall candelabras with holly branches wrapped along the stem. If you are having a more relaxed and fun wedding then you can wrap up guest favors and have a small Christmas tree in the center of each table decorated with tiny white lights and mini rose heads.

Winter is the time to think about warmth. Let your flower arrangements echo your favorite parts of the season. If you like the snow in the winter then you could add silver sparkle to all the tips of the flowers to create an icy effect. If you like the Christmas holiday then incorporate the red and green traditional colors with roses and pine. If you celebrate Hanukah you could do all white amaryllis wrapped in blue tulle. If New Year is your favorite then consider using off white or yellow roses in tall cylinders on each table and dressing the table itself in rich black cloth. Be inspired by what the season means to you. Gather some picture of holidays past and bring them to your florist. Together you will be able to create a beautiful wedding with sentimental value.
