Many weddings happen during the spring and summer. There are lots of reasons to plan then. The weather is good, outdoor venues can be fully utilized, the season is a time of new life, which is a symbolism lots of couples are attracted to.

However, for the couple looking for something a little different, consider having your wedding in the winter. It doesn’t have

to be a Christmas wedding or even a Christmas-themed wedding. There are lots of inspirations that get overlooked in the winter that make beautiful themes for wedding days. Christmas is fun, of course, but consider themes like icicles, snow flakes, snow angels, even fairies or ice castles if you’re feeling whimsical. It’s natural to associate the color white with winter time, and since this is, of course, the most common wedding color, the ‘marriage’ of the season to the event is an easy one.

One huge advantage of a winter wedding is that since it’s considered the ‘off’ season, you may be able to book the venue you want at a discounted rate. You’re also less likely to be caught in a struggle with another couple to reserve the date you want. In addition many families expect to travel over the holidays so your guests may have more open schedules, finding themselves able to attend where the spring or summer might not afford them such time.

Another benefit of holding your ceremony in the winter is the fact that you can consider many style options you normally wouldn’t in the summer. The weather lends itself to long sleeves, either fitted or flowing bell-shaped; thicker, heavier fabrics like satins and velvet; boots, shawls, muffs, even a long hooded cloak for a romantic, dramatic appearance.
