Hi Kevin, I would say its the lens, when you shoot so wide you will have lens distortion and it will be out of focus on the sides no matter what. Try the macro settind and look at the center of the image for the sharpest point. Try a test with the manual focus as well and you can compare the results. Do a depth of field test as well. The little switch is on the lens says af ... correct?

I was wondering if anyone else is using the Canon 30D and what lens are you using. I am using the 17-85mm Canon and a Tamron 28-75 mm,
Just wondering if they were having any focusing issues. The Tamron is brand new. So i am wondering if it could be the camera. Any suggestions out there?

Hello everyone! I have made some very good relationships with Vendors and that has helped me huge. I showcase their info on a specific page on my site www.lparkerphotography.com Also word of mouth too!
I am a part of a great concept called The Marry Me Lounge where brides can go find all their vendors under one roof. Forming these strong bonds are crucial to success for me. I also have marketing pieces that make me a little bit different from everyone else. So far so good!

Our newspaper provides a service where you, as the vendor, GIVE them a 'package' or coupon (such as $100 off a wedding) it has to have a monetary value, and they sell it for much cheaper than the face value and when it sells, they give YOU full credit in advertising dollars. This is great except for the simple fact that not everyone reads the paper paper, they usually read it online.
Recently I went thru Vista Print and had the 100 free postcards printed, I paid the $4.99 upload fee to design it myself and used the template in PS to design it. These postcards are for a free session ad $$ off your print order, when I'm in Walmart, I walk up to cute kids and tell the parents how beautiful the child is and hand them a postcard. Although this works for THAT aspect of my business for weddings it does not. A wise, more famous photographer once said at a seminar, "When I first started out, I used to go to Barnes and Noble and put my business card in all the wedding magazines". I have just started doing this! I'll let you know how it works!

Paula... I love the idea of awarding a free wedding to deserving couples... not necessarily because of the marketability, but I think it's a very nice thing to do... The engagement story contest is great too! I find that word of mouth works well for me... I often get couples who have been referred to me by past couples or even by people I have done a portrait session for... I think that website marketing is probably the best way of exposing yourself to completely new, potential clients....

Back to marketing, it really is word of mouth being the most effective. And frankly that takes TIME. I went pro Jan. 2007 and sometimes I feel like I'm taking off then I fizzle out. Newspaper ads do not work. If you run an ad and you want real results you have to make it POP with Contests Freebies, etc. I've run 'free engagement pics' contest on Craigs list and gotten a little buzz. Problem, Craigs list gets you SLAMMED with foreign check scams. So I decided even that wasn't worth it. Try running a contest on a holiday, say submit by email your engagement story, best story wins "x,y,z". In this economy freebies and such help.
Two, you can contact local churches and offer a free wedding to the most deserving couple that the church selects. (or a version of such offer), that in this economy you want to give back to your community.
