Word of mouth, word of mouth. I hear a lot of that but being only 2 years old we still have to get that built up. Our website and blog right now are our biggest avenues. We've done a few bridal shows that have brought us some work and have helped get our name out there. We advertise with the people who host that but it's quite pricey. We do other small shows, open houses and advertise on other websites. We also do mailings from lead lists (waste of time!). :)

in response to Caroline Sullivan's post...marketing is always tough... I never do print ads.. too expensive with not enough return... I think the web & word of mouth are the best way to get out there... although lately I feel like it's been slower than it was last year at this time... the economy? potential clients aren't finding my site as easily? I just don't know... it's tricky to analyze!

I would like to share maketing ideas that have worked for you. I'm sooo tired of using the newspaper, I get nothing out of it...

Let's wait a few weeks :) because my space is outdoors right now and if we wait, it will be beautifully decorated by Mother Nature herself!

I went pro in 2002 and I also own a daycare center. Three floors and I could only use one for the daycare, it took me until two years ago to figure out how to use the upper floor bedrooms to my 'build' my studio. It hard if there is a handicapped person though....
Also, the 'kitchen' area in the exposed basement was the perfect space for a 'gallery' of sorts. The cabinets held supplies for the daycare but the outsides of the cabinet became space for hanging pics. I just made due with what I had, nothing at all spectular! We should all take pics of our 'spaces'' to share!

I did the same thing when I started, and learned quickly but I do all online proofing now! Easier and saves money.
By samples I meant, keychains, license plates, you know all the novelty stuff that young moms want. I'm totally undecided on what to purchase for my gallery in this realm!
