Prison Weddings

Over the last two years, I've had the opportunity to officiate weddings at a NJ Federal Prison near my home.  Prison weddings can be difficult to set up, but I find them worth the effort.  The couples I've married in prison are very appreciative of my services.

For one reason or another, the chaplains at all the Federal and State Prisons in NJ decline to perform inmate weddings.  This means the inmate and his fiancee must locate an officiant or…

Wedding Ring Tip

Want to save a bundle on your wedding bands?  Instead of purchasing expensive 18K gold or platinum wedding bands, opt for more reasonably priced, and much more durable, tungsten wedding bands.  Tungsten is the hardest metal on the planet, so your rings will look as good on your 50th wedding anniversary as they did on your wedding day!

Sponsored Weddings

Here's a novel and practical way to cut $$$ off your wedding costs. Have a sponsored wedding!

A sponsored wedding is when you are able to find wedding vendors who will offer you their products or services at a reduced rate in exchange for a bit of advertising at your wedding. The advertising need not be tacky. It can be as simple as any of the following:

• A list of sponsors on the back of your wedding program

• An insert card of…

The Royal Engagement Ring

Everyone is abuzz about the upcoming Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The most popular topic seems to be the engagement ring, which belonged to William's mother, Princess Diana. It's a stunning 18 carat oval blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds. A ring truly fit for a princess!

Since the holiday season is one of the most popular times to get engaged (1/4 of all engagements take place between Thanksgiving and Christmas), and so many women are…

Holiday Weddings

Many couples like to get married on a holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years). These are times when family and friends come together to celebrate and share. What better time for a wedding!

Most holiday weddings are small, intimate affairs held in the couple's home. Family and friends are already gathered there for the holiday celebration, so you have a "captive audience," so to speak. All…

NJ Civil Unions

Civil unions (same-gender marriages) have been legal in NJ since the end of February 2007, yet there are still misconceptions about them. I'd like to address a few of them:

1. First of all, civil unions are not the same thing as a civil ceremony. I've had several heterosexual couples call me and request a civil union, when what they really wanted was a civil (non-religious) ceremony. NJ civil unions are for same-gender couples only.…

"State-Free" Weddings

With so many people getting fed up with all the government interference in our lives, "state-free" marriages are becoming increasingly attractive to couples. Here is a link to a blog I wrote last year explaining the idea of "state-free" marriages and how you may have one.:

Alena and Timothy's Wedding

On Friday, November 5, 2010, I had the pleasure of marrying Alena (a lovely young lady from Russia), to her sweetheart, Timothy. The wedding took place in a gazebo overlooking the river outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The short, "No Frills" service they selected was perfect, since the weather was windy and cold. …
