3 Top Tips For Having Children At Your Wedding

If you are planning on having little ones at your wedding, there are a few things you can do to keep them happy and occupied. Although a wedding may seem exciting to them to start with, ceremonies can be long and a sit down dinner can be quite boring for them. So, make sure that you give out special jobs, have a designated play area and provide fun favours to help everything go smoothly!

Give Out Special Jobs

A great way to incorporate children into the wedding and to keep them occupied is to give them special jobs throughout the day. This might be handing out confetti to everyone, giving out wedding programmes, handing out pieces of wedding cake or even encouraging people to get up and dance!

Ask the children in advance to give them something to look forward to in the run up to the wedding as well as throughout the day.

Have A Designated Play Area

Another way to keep the little ones occupied is to have a designated play area. This could be a small area inside or outside filled with hula hoops, skipping ropes, jenga, hopscotch and plenty of other things to give them somewhere to play with the other children. If you know you are going to have lots of children at the wedding, you could also plan a big game for all the guests so they feel like they’re being included with what the grown ups are doing!

You could also organise a scavenger hunt in advance that is run by one of the bridesmaids or groomsmen, involving hidden surprises that the children need to go and find. There are so many options with this, but planning some special activities for them will not only keep them happy but allow their parents to enjoy themselves too.

Provide Fun Favours

Whether you decide to have a childrens table, or you want to seat the children with their parents, you could buy special favours for them to keep them happy throughout the sit down dinner. This could be a colouring book and pens, bubble bottles, a small lego kit or a bracelet making kit. You could also give them a disposable camera and ask them to go round taking photos and tell them you will get the photos developed afterwards!

If you’re going to have a childrens table, you could buy a couple of finger puppets or animal baby washcloths for each child and they could put on their own show. This would keep them going for a while and it is also something they can use at home! Sit down dinners and speeches are going to be boring for the children, so this can help them to be patient and occupied until the fun begins after dinner.

Final Thoughts

Having children at your wedding can be really special, however it is best to be prepared so that your little guests are kept happy. Make sure that you give out special jobs, have a designated play area and provide fun favours. This will help to make sure the wedding goes smoothly and the parents can relax and enjoy the wedding!
