5 Top Tips To Remember When Choosing Your Wedding Ring

When planning your wedding, choosing the right wedding ring for both you and your partner is a big decision to make. Not only does your wedding ring need to suit your style of engagement ring, but it also needs to be practical for your day to day life. After all, it is something you’ll likely wear for the rest of your life! There are a few different things to remember when it comes to choosing your wedding ring to make sure that the choices you make are the right ones!

Refine your choices

Narrowing down your choices for a wedding ring might seem overwhelming at first, but try not to worry too much and take it one step at a time. Firstly, you should choose whether you want diamonds or gemstones and platinum or gold as this will then help you decide on what style you want. Do you want a band that is simple or one with embellishments? Do you want your wedding ring to match your engagement ring, or be its own unique piece of jewellery? Work out the answers to these kinds of questions before you go shopping so that you can work out exactly what you want.

Keep your lifestyle in mind

You must remember that you’re going to wear your wedding ring every day, so the idea is to choose a ring which effortlessly fits in with your life. If you or your partner have a manual job, then a plain, slimmer ring is probably best, or if you’re active and like playing sports then a platinum ring will be more durable and long-lasting.

Set a budget

Some wedding planners and experts believe that when shopping for wedding rings, you should have the assumption that you’ll spend around 3% of your total wedding budget on them. Of course, this depends on the retailer and your budget, for example, if you want a vintage jewellery piece, then this will cost more than one from a high street jeweller. You should also remember that additional extras, such as engraving, embellishments and diamonds will boost the price.

Consider the maintenance

As with any jewellery piece, it’s important to consider the upkeep and maintenance of the item. Just like your engagement ring, you want to keep your wedding ring clean and sparkling. To do this, simply soak in warm, soapy water and brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush - a baby toothbrush is good for this - and then rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth. If you choose to go for diamonds or embellishments on your ring, then you may want to get it professionally cleaned every 6-12 months, just like your engagement ring, to keep it sparkling and clean from debris.

Choose the right size

People very rarely take off their wedding rings and it is a piece of jewellery that is warn throughout warm summer weather, exercise, pregnancy and even things such as weight gain/loss. When choosing your rings, you need to find the right size which suits all of those potential changes, so be sure to make an appointment with a professional ring fitter to find the right size for you. Ideally, try not to get measured first thing in the morning, after exercise or when you are feeling particularly hot or cold, as these things can cause your hands to swell or shrink.
