Now when brides ask my opinion on what dress is best for them I can help point them in the right direction because I know my brides a little better after a couple of months of wedding planning.  I know their style, body type and what kind of wedding they are having so it makes it easier to help.  So to help all my brides out there who are about to embark on what could be one of the most important shopping trips you will ever have, I will help you the best way I know how and this is by being a wedding planner.  As a wedding planner when I’m hit with the wedding dress shopping questions, I have 5 simple tips that will help with the wedding dress shopping process.

1)    You will not know what you like until you try it on.  You can see a picture of a dress that you must have and then you get it on you there is a possibility you will change your mind.  You may even hate it.  You may also hate a particular style but it may be the right style for you. Don't judge a dress on the hanger or by the picture.  Put it on first then you will know better what looks good on you.

2)    Don’t shop until you drop.  Too many choices can leave you feeling confused.  If you are an indecisive person this one is probably for you.  When you find the one, just admit it and say yes to that dress.  Before you know it, you have tried on 100 dresses and none still won't feel right to you because you've seen too much.

3)    Do not look at dress out of your budget and when I say out of your budget I mean dresses that will cost you 2k or more than you planned on spending.  When you fall in love with a dress it is hard to love anything else.  Don’t put yourself through the motions because it will haunt you for the rest of your wedding planning.  Give yourself a $500 to $1,000 wiggle room so you can have more options.

4)    Trust the sales associate’s suggestions.  They are good at their job and they usually know what’s best.  Sometimes someone that has an impartial opinion and just sees you pick the best dress for you.  Your friends and family have a vision in their head of what you would look like as a bride and this may not be the best look for you or it may not even be what you want.  A fresh pair of eyes will see you for you and not their vision of you as a bride.

5)    Try to have fun.  Shopping for your wedding dress will hopefully be a once in a lifetime experience.  Relax and enjoy the process as much as you can!!
