Fill The Dance Floor A Year Before Your Wedding Reception

Eric recently came across an article on Mobile Beat Magazine that he shared with me and it brought up some really interesting points regarding the factors that go into filling the dance floor at a wedding reception.

When a dance floor is not packed at a wedding, most people blame it on the DJ.  Even us wedding DJ's feel that we might be doing something wrong if the dance floor is not full from start to finish.  However, this article mentions that there are so many other factors that need to be planned a year in advance that will contribute to whether your guests fill the dance floor at your wedding.  When you think about it, they really make sense.

When planning a wedding, a couple should of course make their day how they envision it.  However, they should also look at the day through their guests eyes.  Some wedding reception ideas to consider from the guests point of view are:

  • How far away is the ceremony/reception from where the majority of guests live?
  • Will they have to sit in hours of traffic to get to your wedding because it starts at 5:00 on the Friday of a long weekend?
  • Is there a large gap in time between the ceremony and reception where guests have to hang around and wait?
  • What is the parking situation like?  Will they have to leave early to find their car?
  • Have you provided transportation to a hotel for after the ceremony? (We all know that a few cocktails will help encourage people to get on the dance floor).
  • Will you allow your wedding DJ to interact with guests to help get them involved in your day and out of their seats, especially if any of the above are factors?
You may have the best wedding DJ in all of Massachusetts and New Hampshire combined, however if your guests are tired and irritated and have not had a great experience with your wedding thus far, it's going to take away from their desire to dance the night away.
And these "dance floor factors" as the author calls them, need to be planned well in advance in order to ensure that both the bride, groom AND all of their guests have the most amazing and memorable experience at their wedding reception.
