Got your attention?  Good.  If you are planning a wedding or have a friend/family member that is, please read this and share it as we are hoping to help you NOT have a lousy wedding.

As wedding DJ's we know how to pack a dance floor.  That is why you hire us if you want a great wedding.  However, we can not do our job properly if we are limited to what we can play for music.  Think about what you want for your wedding?  Do you want a great party where your guests are having an amazing time and the dance floor is packed?  If so, then we need the freedom to pack that dance floor for you.  And in order to do that, we need to play a variety of music.

At a wedding, there are going to be guests of all ages - from teens to grandparents (maybe some children, and even some great grandparents).  And in order to make sure all of your guests are enjoying the day along with you, when choosing your wedding day music, you need to keep them in mind.  If you limit the genres of music that you want your wedding DJ to play, you will be excluding many of your guests from enjoying the party.

For example, if you inform your wedding DJ that you ONLY want 80's music played, well then you are excluding the musical tastes of many of your other guests who may want to get up and dance to some of the older classic songs or some of today's top 40 selections.  Not everyone will want to dance to ONLY 80's songs ALL night long.  It gets boring listening to the same genre for 2.5+ hours, and you may even get bored yourself.

Now, I'm not saying that your wedding DJ is going to throw on heavy rock music or rap when I say allow us the freedom to do our job.  However, by allowing us to play some selections from other genre's (and maybe have a larger focus on the newer songs or 80's if that's what you are mostly into) then you will capture the interests of most, if not all of your guests.  This will allow more people to get in the mood to dance, which will help keep your dance floor jumping all night.

Also, you never know what your guests will be in the mood for come your wedding day.  One of the main reasons to hire a wedding DJ is because a good one will know how to read the crowd.  They will be able to determine what type of music is working, what isn't working, how many songs to play from each genre and when, when your guests need a slow song, and when a line dance is needed to bring everyone back on to the floor.  You may think your guests are really into the top 40 songs because last weekend you went out with a bunch of your friends and had a blast to this music.  However, they may be sick of the new stuff from listening to it every morning and afternoon during their drive to and from work and some of the classic oldies is what will get them out on the dance floor.  You just never know until the party is in full swing.

Before making any final decisions regarding your wedding day music, you really just need to decide how you envision your reception.  Of course the day is all about you, but do you really want it to be ALL about you, or a celebration for all of your guests to enjoy along with your new husband or wife?

Best of luck!

Jamie
