I wrote in a recent tweet that I wouldn't mind if it rained on our wedding day. In fact, some photographers prefer a little cloud about for great shots.

dont it rain on your parade

Sian, a friend and blogger, was able to share some of her experiences with the best wedding she went to - which happened to be a wet one!

"It was out at Tammworth, and it was the wedding of two long-time friends who’d been together for years. The actual vows were to be performed on the front lawn of the family farm where she grew up. It was an overcast day, and rain was threatening at any minute. At the other end of the farm was a large white marquee set up for the reception. If the rain had broken during the vows, we were all instructed to run to the marquee, where the ceremony would continue. It spotted a couple of times during the vows, and a few umbrellas went up, but they went back down after a minute or two. There was a huge sense of anticipation, and the dramatic weather added to the theatre of the whole occasion. RIGHT after they finished their vows, the rain broke in earnest, and it was so much fun running across the paddock (all the girls had been instructed to wear flats) to the marquee."

How were the bride and groom? Upset, worried about the weather...
The bride and groom were absolutely fine. There was no hysteria, they are both such relaxed people that a tornado could have ripped through and they’d have stood there smiling. That gave us all the impression that what matter to them was not the “day”, but the fact that they were standing there saying their vows and becoming man and wife. And so that’s all that mattered to us.

What made your rainy day wedding so great...
The cosiness of the marquee in the rain, the fun of the moments where the rain cleared for a little while and we all ran outside and sloshed about.

What were the photos like..?
They didn’t have a traditional photographer, but set up a photo booth in the marquee. The line to use it was long all night, and there was so much fun being had. We created their album on the night by sticking one of the two copies the booth spat out into an book for them, and scrawling a message alongside it in silver pen.

Did anyone get stressed out ie Mother of the bride etc..
Only a couple of guests worried about silk, or suede shoes, but even then, in the face of the bride’s calmness, they forgot about it!

General advice for rainy day brides...
There is NOTHING you can so except give your guests some shelter, so make the most of the weather and have fun with it!
